Health insurance companies suck. Let's help Ellie get her wheelchair-accessible van!
It’s been a hot minute since our last fundraising efforts, and we’re here to share the story of Ellie and her family’s quest to purchase a wheelchair van.
While we could spend tons of time talking about how brave this family is, or how special Ellie is, the part missing from this narrative is how SPECTACULARLY the system has failed this family.
Accessibility IS visibility. Accessibility is dignity. Accessibility is support. And since we haven’t managed to figure that out here in NJ, in 2026, it’s a conversation worth having.
No family should have to crowd-fund a wheelchair van, which, last time we checked, is a supportive medical device. Insurance and state programs should be in place to absorb those costs- mothers and fathers should never have to spend what precious energy they have begging for the systems to provide help with what we all poured money into those systems to handle.
And that’s where community comes it, because if we don’t have each other’s backs, then who is going to help us in our time of need? It’s sad to say, but we are living in a time when compassion and empathy are revolutionary.
