WWII field jackets were issued with a will liner, which were often worn around the barracks as bathrobes and (as in the picture) often adorned with unit patches and memorabilia. The robe seen in this picture was once owned by an Army nurse, who received patches from Soldiers under her care as a sign of gratitude. It is on display at the Battleship Cove museum in Fall River, MA.

Somehow, Soldiers always seem to find a way to personalize parts of the military uniform.
