Meet Matcha Whiskers, a playful illustration inspired by Japanese matcha cat cafés, filled with cakes, sweet treats, and playful little details.

Designed with licensing in mind, each dessert and accessory is created as a high-resolution illustration that can stand on its own or be used in coordinating products, from stickers and stationery to crafting supplies and more.

The full café scene is designed to work across different aspect ratios, so it can be adapted to a variety of products without losing the charm and personality of the original artwork.

Are you a matcha fan?

Matcha has been part of my life since growing up in Taiwan, long before it became so popular in the US the past few years! 💚

I was inspired to create this design after seeing a Matcha ice cream stands everywhere and cat cafés in Japan, so I thought to combine two in one illustration. I'm allergic to cats, so I couldn't actually go in, but I can certainly appreciate all the matcha desserts!

I also loved the warm wood interiors and Japandi style, with a modern lighting elements.

So I decided to combine all these things into one illustration: matcha cakes, little treats, cozy café vibes, and, of course, cats!

Here’s how the kitchen collection looks on product: tea towels, an oven mitt, and a storage tin.

I designed these patterns to work together. There’s a busy hero print with all the kitchen goodies, a few secondary prints like the teapots and utensils, and a simple floral to balance it out. They can be mixed into a set or used on their own.

Each one also comes in different colorways, so they can shift to fit a retailer’s palette or season. You can see the teapots on pink and the utensils on blue here.

This collection is available for licensing. If you work in home or kitchen goods and think it could be a fit, feel free to DM me or reach out by email.

These are some of the simplest every day I love to draw - Just spatulas, spoons, a whisk, a little brush, lined up in rows.

At first it reads as one big repeat, but the composition in a row makes you want to look closer to find small differences for fun: some spoons have holes, some spatulas have slots, one is a whisk, one is a brush.

I didn’t plan it that way, but I like that a simple motif can still make you slow down and look.

I kept the structure really straightforward: one flower shape, repeated in tidy rows, separated by thin yellow lines. I love how much a stripe layout can direct your eyes to the floral details. that's why I love Scandinavian folk style, where the motifs are simple but the rhythm makes it feel cheerful.

Not too late for Halloween decor! It’s in my Etsy shop now as a printable if you want a bit of Halloween on your wall.

Happy Halloween! 🎃

Black cats and pumpkins are a classic, so I wanted to make it feel cozy instead of spooky. The cats are just sitting around, hiding in pumpkins, one wearing a pumpkin lid as a hat.

A limited palette is one of my favorite new challenges. I worked with just three colors on this one: coral, sage green, and soft blue on a light mint grid and pink grid colorways.

When you only have a few colors, every choice matters more. It ends up feeling calm, even with so many shapes going on. That balance is what I’m always try to aim for.

Do you prefer a pattern with lots of colors, or just a few?

The cute Scandinavian inspired pattern I shared previously also works great as a wall art!

I added a little word to go with it: lagom, the Swedish idea of “just the right amount.” Not too much, not too little. It’s what I picture when I think of a slow breakfast at home: eggs in the pan, coffee brewing, a croissant (or three 🥐).

This print is now in my Etsy shop as hardcopy print or instant download!

Recently I am revisiting the style that got me into surface pattern design - modern Scandinavian folk art!

This Nordic Kitchen Collection showcases the colorful and symmetry of Scandinavian design, but I purposely sneak it a bit of organic designs in there to give more dynamics to the symmetrical and geometric nature!

Versatile for kitchen ware and homeware decor.

DM for licensing and buyout.
