After a long break, I am back…something akin to a shriveled husk, but trying to start creating again.
There was a point this summer where making things stopped being fun. I was upset with my creations all the time, and myself.
AL is very good at pointing things out to me when I don’t notice that something is wrong. I find it hard to see myself when I am going nonstop all of the time. The last half year was a whirlwind of making, stocking, posting, prepping, teaching…meanwhile little bits of my creative energy were gradually getting used up until making felt exhaustive and agonizing. A good friend pointed out that my studio was a physical manifestation of what was going on in my brain. Everything was lost in a pile, which was then ignored while I found myself unable to deal with it, and the less I dealt with it, the worse it became. By trying to accomplish too much, I was losing the joy of making.
BUT! This has happened to me before, and will happen again. Now that I am through the most difficult part of my year, I can appreciate everything that I did. I got a new job at my favorite community education program, I did my first Renfaire, and I supported myself solely through my art for a year and a half. I got to make so many cool things that you guys enjoyed, and meet so many new people. I will never give up!!
I am FINALLY able to revisit my commissions list. Thank you SO much for your patience while I navigate the chaos that was my life. Everyone has been so kind and understanding. I should have taken a break on commissions while all this was going on, but I have a hard time saying no to people. I love that you love my art, and I want everyone to be happy, and I am really excited to finally get these out for you.
Too tired to think of what to say, and the video was so peaceful without me talking, so I’ll shut up for this one. 🐟🌊🪣
