Some pieces tell you when to stop.

This vintage Globe-Wernicke Horizontal Unit came to us with plenty of years showing — but underneath was a piece worth saving.

We’ve carefully stripped and sanded it to 120 grit, bringing the wood back to raw while preserving the character that makes an old piece like this interesting.

15 dovetailed drawers. Original Globe-Wernicke card-holder pulls!! Paneled ends. Original labels. And the patented Globe-Wernicke drawer compressor system still inside.

And this time, we’re stopping right here.

It’s being offered RAW and ready for the next owner’s finish of choice — stain it dark, keep it natural, oil it, wax it, or take it in an entirely different direction.

We have our ideas…but what would you do with it?

DM for details if you are interested..

WHAT WAS THIS TINY CABINET MADE FOR? 👀

This unusual handmade wooden cabinet stopped us in our tracks. Between the arched paneled doors, decorative crown, wooden latch, and wonderfully imperfect construction, it has all the character we look for in an old piece.

Our best guesses:

🕯️ A small devotional cabinet
🧸 A doll-sized wardrobe
🛠️ A craftsman’s one-of-a-kind creation
❓ Something else entirely

Cabinet is 22” tall, 11 1/4” wide and 5 1/4” deep.

Those measurements include the decorative top
Actual cabinet is 17 1/2 tall. The cabinet opening is 12 1/4 at the arch and the drawer is 2 1/2 inches tall if that helps!!

Swipe through the photos, look closely, and tell us your theory in the comments.

One of our favorite parts of doing this is seeing where these old pieces end up.

Which of these is your favorite??

These two cabinets recently made their way to their new homes, and their owners were kind enough to send us a few pictures. It’s always fun to see something we worked on actually being used and becoming part of someone else’s space.

The old Patent Office cabinet looks right at home on the stair landing, and we love how the Library Bureau SoleMaker cabinet found a spot against that beautiful old brick wall.

Thanks to everyone who has given one of our pieces a new home — and please keep sending us the pictures. We really enjoy seeing where they land.

A fun little transformation on this one.

This old maple cabinet had great bones, lots of drawers (which we can’t turn down of course), and plenty of character from years of use.

We cleaned it up, kept the original warm maple finish and hardware, and gave it a new life as an entry table or sofa table, maybe a tv stand or office bureau. We created a separated base platform and went with a simple set of black hairpin legs. The cabinets locks into the base to sit strong and sturdy.

The drawers are 2 different sizes, here’s a cabinet tucked into the end, and we left the bumps, scratches and wear that tell you this piece has been around awhile.

Nothing fancy. Just a useful elegant piece of furniture getting another chance to be useful.

Measurements:
44” wide, 33.5” to top of the back, 30.25” to top of shelf,

Cabinet along is 17” tall to top of back, 9.5” deep

4 large drawers: 15” wide, 4”t, 8.75” deep
4 small drawers: 7.5” wide
Cubby: 12”high, 11.5” wide

DM with any questions.

Not bad…

Found this old Oliver Superior grain bin board and couldn’t bring ourselves to change much. Built a simple frame around it and let the years of wear, faded lettering and old patina do the talking.

Saved a little piece of farm history.

From rust heap to relic. ⚙️

Some days we are refinishing cabinets… not this rainy weekend…. This weekend we were working on inventory… our type of inventory… DRAWERS!!!!

These WC Heller and Hobart drawers were one rainstorm away from disintegrating — now they’re wrapped, restored, and ready to live another century.

Old hardware cleaned, wood revived, and every scar left right where it belongs.

| Salvage. Restore. Repeat.

Finished up while waiting out the nor’easter…. Tried out the ebony stain to make the drawers pop… whatcha think?

Straight out of a factory floor that probably smelled like sweat, steel, and sawdust. ⚙️

Solid wood sides with metal handles, thick cast iron drawer pulls, and drawers built for a lifetime of work — now doing a little less labor and a lot more looking good.

Forged in the past. Reclaimed for the present.

36”w, 18.75”t, 12.25”deep. $195
