One of West Virginia's most memorable events...the annual "Mothman Festival" takes over the town of Point Pleasant each year for a full weekend of fun, crowds, and all things Mothman. Scheduled for September 19th and 20th in 2026, this well-known street festival fills Main Street with people dressed in all kinds of cryptid costumes, from red-eyed Mothman outfits to Men in Black suits. The 501st Legion shows up with Star Wars characters, and even the Ghostbusters make an appearance, posing for photos while helping support local kids’ charities. Live music plays both days at Riverfront Park right along the Ohio River, giving you a great view while you listen. You can start your day with the 7 a.m. Mothman 5K, then spend time checking out vendor booths, face painting, and games for kids. Food trucks serve everything from BBQ and tacos to “moth floss,” sweets, and fun drinks. You can also visit the Mothman Museum, take a guided TNT bus tour, and grab a photo at the famous Mothman Statue during this one-of-a-kind West Virginia event.

Food for thought

Most of the universe is hidden from us — literally.
Scientists estimate that about 95% of all physical reality is invisible to human senses and even most instruments.

Our perception covers only a sliver of what exists: eyes detect light between 380 and 770 nanometers, and ears pick up sound from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Everything outside those ranges — ultraviolet, infrared, ultrasonic, infrasonic — moves around us constantly, unseen and unheard.

Think about it: radio waves pass through buildings, deep-sea whale calls travel for miles underwater, and neutrinos — subatomic particles born from stars — stream through your body by the trillions every second without leaving a trace.

Technology has helped expand our reach. Infrared cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radio telescopes reveal parts of reality that our senses can’t grasp. But beyond all that, dark matter and dark energy — which together make up most of the cosmos — remain complete mysteries.

We live inside a tiny window of perception, surrounded by an ocean of existence we can’t see, hear, or touch… yet it’s all there, shaping the world around us.

The Tatzelwurm was seen in numerous areas of Europe, including Austria, Bavaria, Germany, Italy and the Swiss Alps. The creature is said to have the upper body, head and front legs of a cat and back end of a snake. Though, some witnesses describe something more dragon like or serpent like. The Tatzelwurm is said to measure in at 2 to 6 feet long.

One of the first stories of the Tatzelwurm comes from 1779, when a man named Hans Fuchs came across two of these animals. He was able to tell his family of these mysterious creatures before he died of a heart attack while running home out of fright.

Legends of the creature differ depending on the area. The Austrian and German stories of this creature claim that it is deadly. The Tatzelwurm in these areas is said to have extremely poisonous breath, enough to be lethal to a human. The Swiss version of this legend is also said to be poisonous, but not specifically its breath.

National Sasquatch Awareness Day is officially recognized on October 20, inspired by the anniversary of the famous Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot footage from 1967. At Bigfoot Club, the spirit of October 20th can be celebrated every day by honoring Sasquatch lore, sharing stories, and engaging the community just like on that national day.
