Believe it or not, ranunculus were one of the first flowers I started growing as a flower farmer. Next year marks 7 years growing them! (wow, how did we get here?)
I learned so much about them!
Here in Bowling Green, Kentucky, zone 7, *field grown*, personally:
• I start them the last week of January—aka, wake them up, soak them, get them in soil to pre-sprout.
• Within 10-14 days they’ve sprouted and I put them under grow lights until about Valentine’s Day
• Harden off and PLANT OUT mid February!
• Let them be. Only cover if temps drop below freezing. (I hear they can stand up to 20 but I don’t like to chance it)
• SNOW is a great insulator!!
• Start harvesting in April with long stems!!
• pro tip- they like calcium
