Normally I would make make a post on the 4th of July and wish everyone a “Happy 4th of July”!

Sadly, we are not living in normal times. 😔

I remember being so excited in 1976 to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of our nation… EVERYTHING was red, white and blue…. even the fire hydrants. Some were even painted like little revolutionary soldiers. ❤️ Does anyone else remember this???

Everything we did and learned in school had to do with how America fought for and won their freedom from an oppressive, tyrannical king, who could not have cared less about the inhabitants of this land, we now call the United States of America, as long as we sent him our money and let him do whatever he wanted. Sound familiar?

I remember watching cartoons waiting for the School House Rock to come on hoping it was the one about the king, with big fish lips, and our soldiers fighting off the English army… no taxation without representation!!! Another favorite was how a bill becomes a law. Truth be told, perhaps I learned more about our nation from watching cartoons, but the point is, I was soooooo incredibly proud to be an American even at 9 years old. 🥰

In 1976, we were still reeling from the resignation of President Nixon; President Ford stepped in though and did a fine job until President Jimmy Carter was elected, which leads me to the point of my post… Honor.

Our forefathers fought for something better, and many, if not most of them died fighting for what we now call democracy. They did so with honor… dying for something they had never seen, but believed was possible.

I still believe in America. I still love our country and today I will choose to be happy, because once they steal your joy, the game is over.

So I will end this with wishing everyone a “Happy 4th of July”. Be with family, watch the parades, eat the apple pies, laugh, feel joy and tomorrow let’s get back to work on making our country whole again.

November is coming… let’s vote like our lives depend on it… because in truth it does.

Good News... Hacky Sacks and Dirt Bags are in the house. 😀😀😀

Bad News... the cost has increased to $10 & $12 respectively. 😔

My vendor told me they had to increase the price to ensure they got them and hope that when the Tik Tok madness settles down they can hopefully go back down to the normal price of $4. 🤞🤞🤞

We are so excited and honored to receive this award from the MEDC. 🥰

Over the years Main Street and programs like Match on Main have been instrumental in helping us not only repair and maintain our 120+ year old building, but keeping the historic nature of our building and our downtown area.

Thank you Boyne City Main Street for educating our local business community about grants such as these when they become available.

This July we will celebrate 26 years in business… we wouldn’t be here without the support of our customers, Boyne City Main Street, Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Boyne City.

It takes a village to keep stores like ours open and thriving and we are so glad all of you are part of our village!

Boyne City Main Street is excited to share that the Michigan Strategic Fund (MEDC) has approved the Match on Main FY26 grant awards and our very own inspired living was amongst the award winners! The Match on Main grants support small businesses and placemaking efforts in communities across Michigan, like ours.

Match on Main is designed to support new and expanding businesses while advancing placemaking efforts that strengthen Michigan’s downtowns and commercial districts. These investments help create vibrant, attractive destinations where residents, visitors, and entrepreneurs can connect, contributing to the long-term economic vitality of communities across the state. In the case of inspired living, Leslie Nielson states that her desire is to expand their inventory offerings to replace some of the lost retail we’ve experienced in town – this is what these grants hope to fund.

Happy Juneteenth!!! Today is the day we celebrate the beginning of the end of slavery, first celebrated in 1865.

Black History is important. It shows us the depths of cruelty humans are capable of and also the depths of compassion, empathy and what the human spirit is capable of enduring as well.

All history is important, but for today we celebrate Juneteenth! 🥰
