I’ve been trying to share a little more of life outside the boutique, and lately that life has involved a lot of pizza.

My husband spent THREE YEARS building this wood-fired oven in our backyard. No kit. No set of plans. Just plans he found online, modified to fit what he wanted, and more hours of YouTube videos than I could ever count.

And really, you have to get it right… otherwise you’re left with a very large, very permanent piece of yard art.

Thankfully, it works.

We’ve spent the last three weekends eating pizza while he perfects his dough recipe and sauce. He’s even made spareribs in it, so apparently we’re expanding beyond our pizza era.

This one is our favorite so far:
Mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula and hot honey.

And yes… after three weekends of pizza, we’re still not tired of it.

Yesterday was a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly things can change.

A vehicle drove through the storefront of our neighbor, Turning Tides. Dr. Debbie is an incredible person, and my heart goes out to her as she begins to deal with the aftermath and figure out how to put everything back together. We’re truly hoping she’s able to get her business back up and running soon.

There was also minor damage to our neighbors at Blake Hospital Rehab Center and Sage Biscuit.

Above everything else, we’re incredibly grateful that no one was seriously injured or lost their life. With an accident like this, the outcome could have been so much worse.

Our thoughts are with everyone involved—the driver, the people who witnessed what happened, and the businesses now dealing with the damage and disruption.

Small businesses are more than just buildings and storefronts. A lot of time, work, and heart goes into them. We’re thinking of our neighbors and hoping for a quick recovery for everyone affected.
