Kathy Storm's Art Shop

Kathy Storm's Art Shop My love of nature and wildlife transformed by photography, glass and more. I have been an artist of many mediums most of my life.

I have a home studio for 25 years and have produced art, including painting, stained glass, clay, mosaics, wire and photography. I have loved and respected nature and wildlife since I was a child. I like to say my art is "nature transformed" as I try to use organic and natural materials as often as I can. I display much of my art at Island Gallery West in Holmes Beach, FL or in my home studio. I also have an Etsy Shop, EarthmotherKathy.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love my birds! But my eye is moving in a couple different directions with two new series I’ve been working on.
One has been an idea for awhile now and that is “The Garden of Decadent Decay.” I like old things, things on their way out of this world. I think they can be so beautifully intriguing if you allow yourself to see past what they once were in their former life or glory. The first picture is of fallen frangipani flowers randomly thrown in one of the birdbaths. The blue is the sky through the trees overhead and the background is an old cement birdbath.
The second series is called “Glass: Keeper of the Light.” I worked and created with stained glass for 25 years. Even though I’m retired from that medium now, I still love glass and how it seems to hold the light inside or be a keeper of the light. The second picture is of a round stained glass panel in a west window at our house. The sun was going down and for just a few moments the light came in the window and passed through a glass orb that was on a marble top table. The orb held some of the light and released the rest as a reflection on the table.
My photography is on display at Island Gallery and Studios, 456 12th St. W. in downtown Bradenton. Stop by and have a look at these and the works of 28 other artists. Check our website for more information about the gallery and the artists. www.islandgalleryandstudios.org

Island Gallery and Studios is an award winning fine art gallery, which has now been in business for more than thirty-three years. It operates as a cooperative that is managed and run by the members exclusively.

And now, for the first time, we are expanding our artist base by offering an invitation, on a very limited basis, for artists to share in our success and to serve as “Guest Artists.” All mediums will be considered, including two and three dimensional works.

As a “Guest Artist” you will be offered a display area for hanging your art work for a period of one or two months.

Your admission is dependent upon submitting your application and artwork in an email, which will be reviewed by a membership jury.

So, whether you are a new artist, or if you are one who has been creating art for many years, this is a great opportunity to exhibit your work without the extra responsibilities of committing to a co-op. However, this offer is applicable to only a few spaces each month. And now is a GREAT time to join us!

For more information, please contact
[email protected].

We look forward to hearing from you!

A sneak peek at my December wall.
Birds in Heaven, On Golden Pond, Great Blue at Starfish, Pelican Hangout, Found Art~~ A Real Conversation Starter, and featuring in the center, brand new, Cutting an Apple for the Old Girl. Here’s the story: When I was younger and growing up in rural Pennsylvania, there was a farm across the road from our old homestead where they raised and bred horses. I loved watching them almost every day. Eventually the stallions were all sold and now there are only mares there. I knew my brother-in-law often walked across the highway with a couple of apples to make sure they all got a treat as often as he could. One day when I was there for a visit I went with him and took a couple of pictures. Later when I looked at them, the title “Cutting an Apple for the Old Girl,” immediately popped into my head.

Title: “Cutting an Apple for the Old Girl”
Here’s the story: Back in the day, when I was younger and growing up in rural Pennsylvania, there was a farm across the road from our old homestead where they raised and bred horses. I loved watching them almost every day. Eventually the stallions were sold and now only mares live there. My brother-in-law often walks across the highway with a couple of apples to make sure they all get a treat as often as he can. One day when I was visiting I went with him and took a couple of shots. Later when I looked at the pictures, the title “Cutting an Apple for the Old Girl,” immediately popped into my head.
Size is 16" x 20" mounted in a rustic barnwood frame that compliments the picture beautifully. Price: $135.00. Also available in several other sizes in my bin at the gallery now.

Introducing another new piece of my photographic art work coming soon (Sept. 1) to Island Gallery West, 5368 Gulf Dr., Holmes Beach. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., (closed Monday). “Pelican Hangout” is a daily occurrence at Kingfish Boat Ramp. The Brown Pelicans are one of Florida’s most popular and fascinating water birds, and a favorite of both locals and visitors. They are playful, have a lot of personality and never seem to be as serious as some other water birds. They can be comical on the ground, but are magnificent as they fly and glide through the air with their seven-foot wingspan! This piece measures 29x36 and will make quite a statement wherever it is displayed. . The second and third pictures show the art displayed in random room settings. (Stay tuned for more . . .)

The first one, “Golden Pond” I photographed at Robinson Preserve in a somewhat secluded spot where many water birds like to start off their day in the early morning, golden hour. Printed, stretched and mounted on a custom-made frame by Frank Williams, Island Mail & Print, this piece measures 48x27. The somewhat private area and subdued morning light on the birds, will add a hint of stylish elegance to any room. The second and third pictures show the art displayed in random room settings. (Stay tuned for more . . .)
