Where should you sell your baseball cards?

eBay, Facebook Marketplace, card shows, dealers, consignment, and Whatnot all have advantages — but they are not right for every collection.

I wrote a practical guide comparing the main options, especially for people with older baseball cards who are not sure where to start.

Cards in the Closet… It’s Go Time!

Thinking About Selling Your Sports Card Collection?

If your sports card collection has followed you from your boyhood closet to your first apartment, and then into the house with extra rooms for the grandkids, there usually comes a point where it makes sense to ask:
Am I ever going to do anything with this?
Maybe it’s time to take a serious look.

I Buy Sports Card Collections

I’ve been buying sports card collections since 1989, when I opened my first store in downtown Boston.

I’m not just looking for the one card in the safety deposit box and leaving you with the rest. I buy entire collections.
From a worn 1952 Topps high number, to a 1967 Marvel Hulk sticker, to a half-complete 1986 Fleer Basketball set — I like it all.

How I Approach a Collection
If you’re thinking about selling, I’ll walk you through the best options.

Some collections are best sold outright. Some have stronger cards that may make more sense for consignment. In certain cases, it may even make sense to grade a card before selling.

We’ll go through that together and decide what gives you the best outcome.

If you’re not quite ready yet, I also offer consultations so you can get a better grasp of what you have and how you may want to approach it down the road.

Wondering What I Buy?
It’s hard to cover every possibility—there are always exceptions—but here are the areas where the answer is almost always yes:

Cards (any singles, lots, or complete sets)
Baseball: 1887–1975 (no reproductions)
Basketball: 1948–1987
Football: 1935–1986
Hockey: 1933–1986
Non-sports: 1933–1975

Graded Cards
PSA, SGC, BVG

Other Material (especially pre-1965)
Pins
Tickets
Programs
Yearbooks

Boxed material and full collections are always of interest.

If your collection falls in or around these areas, it’s worth reaching out.

If you're ready to move on from your collection, call, text or email me with a general idea of what you have. Let's see if those cards are ready for a new home.

1991 is right in the middle of the junk wax era…

Which means most cards are worth very little.

But not all of them.

There are a handful of cards—Desert Shield, early inserts, even certain Wild Card football—that still carry real value today.

I put together a breakdown of what actually matters (and what doesn’t) so you don’t waste time chasing the wrong things.

If you’ve got a box from the early 90s sitting around, this is worth a look.

1991 sits right in the middle of the junk wax era - when most cards were massively overproduced. But not all of them.Certain issues - limited releases, premium inserts, and unusual distribution - still carry real value today. I've handled this material for decades, and these are the ones that consist...

Looks ordinary. Some Sell for $500+

This 1986 Panini Supersport Mike Tyson sticker doesn't look like much at first glance. Many were tossed in drawers or forgotten in old collections.

But even average looking examples can sell for hundreds of dollars.

If you have old sports cards, unopened packs, or collections sitting in a closet, it may be worth having an expert take a look before throwing anything away.
