Here is a rare opportunity to own an authentic piece of Salem Haunted Happenings history.
This vintage Salem Haunted Happenings banner features the iconic flying witch and moon design associated with the early years of Salem’s famous Halloween celebration.
But what makes this particular banner truly special is its provenance.
The artwork was designed by my husband, Chuck Carey, while he was working as an art director for McDougall and Associates, an advertising agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
Chuck received this banner as a complimentary piece because of his involvement with the Haunted Happenings project. We have owned and carefully preserved this banner ever since.

The connection to Chuck’s work is not simply family history. Salem State University Archives documents Chuck Carey as the art director responsible for the Haunted Happenings logo in its archival material from the early years of the event.

It has been stored for decades and retains its striking original colors.
There are folds and wrinkles from long-term storage, but overall the banner is remarkably well preserved.
Salem Haunted Happenings began in 1982 and grew into the internationally recognized Halloween celebration that Salem is famous for today.
This isn’t a modern Halloween decoration or a reproduction.
It is an authentic vintage piece of the early Haunted Happenings era, preserved by the very person who helped create its iconic visual identity.
For the serious collector of Salem history, Halloween memorabilia, vintage advertising, graphic design, witchcraft-related history, or Haunted Happenings memorabilia, this is an exceptionally unusual opportunity.
