Farming will keep you humble.
There’s a side of farming that doesn’t always make it into the harvest pictures.
The long hours. The sleepless nights. The risk. The sacrifice. The money tied up in a crop and the equipment it takes to bring it in. The weather you can’t control, the breakdowns you didn’t plan for, and the phone calls you never want to get.
Some days you feel like you’re finally getting ahead. Then farming has a way of reminding you just how little is actually in your control.
And every now and then, farming gives you a reminder of just how quickly things can change.
It’s in moments like these that you realize how much of this life is beyond our control. We can make plans, work hard, prepare for every possibility, and still find ourselves facing something we never saw coming.
But our faith isn’t based on everything going according to plan. Even when the road gets hard, we still have so much to be grateful for. We trust that the Good Lord is right there with us—through the good seasons and the difficult ones—keeping His arms wrapped around us and giving us the strength to face whatever comes next.
Through it all, I can’t help but think of Job:
“The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” — Job 1:21
Farming isn’t just a job. It requires faith when things don’t make sense, perseverance when you’re tired, and the courage to get up the next morning and do it all over again.
We don’t know what tomorrow holds. But we know Who holds tomorrow.
And by the grace of God, we’ll get up, keep going, and keep farming. 🌾🙏
