If the last time you read this book was in high school I really encourage you to try it again. To me, there is a big difference between reading for literary purposes and reading for the enjoyment of the story. Sitting in a classroom dissecting all the parts of one chapter before being able to read the next one takes the fun out of it for me (sorry Mrs. Heibert). But once you’re able to curl up and really connect with Scout through her point of view, the story becomes so much more than answers to an AP test.

I love all things Disney and when I saw this series with the sprayed edges I knew my bookshelf needed them. Not only are the sprayed edges to DIE FOR, but the spines line up to create a scene once all books are placed together 😍. At that point just TAKE MY MONEY.

As far as the story itself, it’s a retold sequel of Alice in Wonderland. Not exactly Through The Looking Glass but kind of the same thought. Alice is now an adult and takes pictures of different people around London.

When she starts to see some Wonderland friends appearing in her developed images, she begins to remember her dreams of Wonderland. Only, the Wonderland citizens look terrified in their pictures, and when she sees an image of a girl that looks tied up and bloody, Alice decides she must return to Wonderland somehow.

When she finally gets back, they have been waiting on her to rescue them. The queen is on a tyrant and is hanging any citizens that get in her way from “winning the game.”

In typical Wonderland fashion, nothing quite makes sense as it is all nonsense but I feel like the author did a good job of keeping with the original storytelling and making it just a bit more modern to appeal to today’s young adults.

I really enjoyed this book and currently have the 4 that have been released.

Enemies->Friends->Lovers

This book was a fast rom-com that I could easily see being made into an Amazon prime original movie. No real wow factor to keep the pages turning but a fun read none the less.

Both main characters, January and Augustus, are writers. They went to the same college and rivaled each other through all their classes.

When life happens to throw January into a little beachside cottage in Michigan, she finds that her new neighbor is none other than Augustus. Their heated rivalry continues until they both admit they are experiencing writers block and make a bet to switch genres. Augustus will write a romance, and January will write a more serious novel.

They begin to experience challenges together slowly leading to an appreciation and friendship towards one another. As the challenges get deeper so does the sexual tension until they both decide to give in (just once can’t hurt, right? 😉)

It’s been awhile since I’ve loved a book as much as I loved this one. I love when the narrator is a kid because you get that innocent outlook with a bit of an unreliable narrator. Meg will make you laugh despite all the sadness you should be feeling.

If you have read this you need to read Shelterwood by Lisa Wingate and Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate.

Set in 1933 Oxford, Mississippi,it’s told partly from the point of view of 11 year old Meg and partly from Ms. Birdie Calhoun. Meg gives you the innocent, naive, and fun version while Birdie gives you the more adult version of what’s really going on.

Meg is an orphan living in the worst conditions at the Lafayette County Orphan Asylum. When Birdie Calhoun comes to town to see her sister, she begins to uncover the secrets of the orphanage and discovers the finanacial problems of her sister and her husband are deeper than originally thought.

Birdie then meets Charlie, a woman down on her luck, and devise a plan to help everyone. But can they do it in a town where women are expected to maintain a proper house and not work?

Title: The Wedding People
Author: Alison Espach
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Page count: 363
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book starts off with Phoebe, a woman that is very depressed and wants to commit su***de and this luxury hotel. When she arrives at the hotel she learns that a wedding is taking place throughout the entire week and all of the rooms were supposed to have been held for the wedding guests.

When the bride finds out that Phoebe is staying there and planning to commit su***de that night she starts to inject herself into Phoebe’s personal space.

Told through the eyes of Phoebe, you feel connected to her rollercoaster of emotions throughout the week of wedding activities, because she actually becomes part of the wedding.

I gave this 3 stars because it’s missing a wow factor for me. It’s a good story, but nothing special that made me want to keep turning the pages.

Title: Anatomy of an Alibi
Author: Ashley Easton
Genre: Murder Mystery
Page count: 337
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

This murder mystery starts off with two women creating what they think is a solid alibi and the next thing you know one of their husbands is dead. The rest of the book is not only trying to figure out who killed him, but unraveling the very dirty thread of lies and secrets that started 10 years ago and leads all the way up to not only the murder but to the very last sentence of the book. Each chapter is told from a different point of view and from a different time.

This was a hard rating for me. I really wanted to give it 4 stars but it took awhile for the hook to really sink in so I went with 3 1/2.

The author does a really good job of making you think you have an understanding of what’s going on. Just when you get comfortable, she yanks the rug out from under you and you’re left scrambling just like the characters in the book.
If the beginning hadn’t dragged on so much before the first rug was pulled it would have been 4 stars, but I was so comfortable for so long that I was forcing myself to read a few chapters at a time.
It wasn’t until halfway through that I was finally hooked and read the second half in one sitting.

Would I recommend it? Yes but with the knowledge that you have to push through when you feel a lull in the case.

It has been awhile but we are going to start back up again, this time just a little different. We’re going to start with this just being for book reviews and more of a community for readers. I hope to start the subscription box again soon, but the interest started to dwindle and life got in the way.

For now we’re just going to do a review of the book I finished last night.

Title: The Unhoneymooners
Author: Christina Lauren
Genre: Romcom fiction
Page count: 395
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is a perfect summer romantic comedy. Olive and Ethan are forced to go on her sister’s and his brother’s honeymoon after some hilarious events happen at their wedding.

Olive and Ethan hate each other and are fully prepared to avoid each other the entire vacation, but when circumstances keep popping up and they have to keep acting like husband and wife, the banter starts to become enjoyable.

The only problem is that paradise only lasts for so long and there are some secrets in the closet when they return home.

This book was funny and lighthearted. The characters are lovable and the whole time I was picturing Sophia Vergara and Ryan Reynolds.

I would love to see this made into a movie one day.
