We will be closed today, Friday January 30th, in support of the National Shutdown.

We know this won't solve our problems in this country but it takes each of us showing a willingness to step out of our everyday normal activities to sow the seeds of change. What is happening is not okay, and that is simply not up for debate.
If you can't withhold your labor today, please consider withholding your money.

We can't thank you all enough for an incredible holiday season at our new location on Main Street. The kind words and enthusiasm for this new chapter have truly meant the world. As of this week we are open for our winter hours of Friday through Sunday 11-5 until the Spring equinox. Hope to see you in the store, and here's to a happy and healthy new year!

We're officially open for business in our new location at 141 Main St! We'll be open Saturdays and Sundays from now until Black Friday, after which we'll be back to our usual Thursday - Sunday through the holidays. We can't wait to see you all at our new spot!

This is the final weekend to catch us on Elliot Street!
We'll be open this Thursday through Monday (Labor Day) 11-5, then we'll be closed for most of September as we shift over to our new home on Main Street.

All books are still 20% off, and books over $30 are 30% off.

Thank you all for the support and kind words during this final time before the move. We're so happy to be able to continue to serve this very special town.

Hi everyone,
Now that the future is a little clearer we wanted to make a couple of announcements.

As some know by now, Michael passed away a couple of months ago. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and presence in downtown Brattleboro. We’ve appreciated the outpouring of condolences and pleasant memories from our customers and friends, and will continue to appreciate kind words and respects paid to a man whose love of books and Brattleboro touched countless lives in the 27 years he ran the bookstore.

The bookstore will continue on under the ownership of Michael and Ellen’s daughter, Sarah, whose face many of you are likely already familiar with. Having grown up in bookstores from a very young age and carrying a love of books her whole life, she is well equipped to carry on the legacy of the store into its second generation.

And, we are moving! After 37 years we have been asked to vacate our current location at 36 Elliot, and have been welcomed into the Hooker-Dunham Block on Main Street with open arms. We will be open and operating on Elliot Street through Labor Day (9/1), after which we will shut down for a few weeks to shift over to the new location.

Our new home will be 141 Main Street, right between the Shoe Tree and the new Beadniks location. We can’t wait to see you all over there!

Thank you for your support all of these years, we are forever thankful to be a part of such a book-loving community, and grateful to continue to serve this very special area.
