5/14/24: Dr. Piper and I had a successful search for banded loons this morning. 6 active nests were located; 5 nests previously known with 1 new located. One banded loon positively ID as the former Mousseau Bay Loon from 2 years ago! He is with a new unbanded female nesting on 2 eggs on the Lillehei nest. This is a surprise to find the previosuly banded Mousseau Bay male that was evicted a year ago from the Mousseau Bay pair. The Mousseau Bay male was banded in 2022. This pair is nesting 2 eggs, which were observed today. The “Channel” loon held close to the nest, we were unable to ID any bands, as was the case for the Breezy Point nest. We were unable to locate the mates for the Far Nest, the Channel, the Breezy Point nor the newly discovered Gooseberry Spit nest. The Jones Bay nest does have 2 eggs, but we did not locate adult loons.
