I am a mother of 2 wonderful children, and grandmother to 3 amazing grandchildren. Looking back, I am truly thankful that I was able to stay home with my kids to bond and nurture them when they needed me most. The first 16 years of their lives. But as my youngest child began High School, I realized I had lots of free time. I am what my husband calls a motivator, a self starter, and I began to thin
k of ways I could be productive. While discussing my new found time with a close friend who is an interior designer, he suggested that with my imaginative mind I should pursue I career in that field. That initial conversation was the single most important factor that brought me to this juncture in my life. Growing up in a family of 4 sisters and being the eldest sibling my Mom, who is a dress maker, running a sartorial business, made sure I could wield a needle and thread at an early age. I quickly became one of her most valued employee, able to undertake difficult chores. Eventually as my sisters became of age they joined us as well, and Mom‘s business grew. This was a way for me to learn a trade and I liked the idea that mom was my mentor. The sewing skills I learned in my teens were like a hobby now, and I kept actively sewing making things for my children and my home. With my background I decided to go back to school and pursue a career in interior decorating. I now conduct a decorating business where I work for myself, and separately I collaborate with other designers. This job is beyond fulfilling and it keeps me more than busy, I truly enjoy what I do. So how did I get here? I have been struggling for years to clean difficult to clean items, such as unusual shaped bottles, decanters, oil and vinegar vessels, canteens, and plastic containers. After many years of trial and error, I finally came up with an item, and method of process, that worked on items made of glass plastic and metal. I tested, experimented and involved many friend and relatives to help test and verify I had a viable tool. I surfed the internet in research of what was available, and was surprised of the strange things and methods used to clean these items. After having satisfied myself that I had a new practical tool, I proceeded with the help of my husband to patent this Item. The USPTO has accepted my application for a Utility patent and I am waiting for approval, That is the SCRUB BEADS . In my business, I receive fabrics used to make drapes from European mills, I also receive trimmings and hardware from domestic and foreign companies. Inside one of those boxes I found something I didn’t order. It looked like a very large sponge. I wanted to return it to the shipper, but was told to discard the item, it wasn’t cost effective to ship it back . However this sponge felt different, and was unusual. Because of that, I proceed to cut it up in pieces and used it as a bath sponge, it worked well on my arms and legs and loved the way it made me feel. It exfoliated my body better than anything I had tried before. This wonder sponge, did not retain water so there was no mold build and smell. I decided I would promote the item if I could source it. After many conversations and telephone calls, I found the source of the sponge. I am now marketing this item as THE XFOLIATOR…
I can’t say I just stumbled upon these two products. I was in need of a solution and was determined to find one. It may be a cliché saying that “Necessity is the mother of invention”, but it is true. An innovative mind does not rest, who knows what will be next.
