FINAL WEEKEND!
UP TO 75% OFF EVERYTHING!

It's not too early to start thinking about fall. I've made up my fall window boxes. They are just set aside for now. Late Aug I will pop out my purple ones, put in my orange ones, add a few pumpkins, whaa laa, fall is done. Everyone has extra pots. Grab some fall colors, grasses, foliage like coleus now. Pot up and just set aside. You will be the envy of the neighborhood when you boldly brag you puchased at 75% OFF!

A question we get a lot. My garden is not ready, can the perennials sit in the pot. Absolutely. Just cut them back by about half. I would set in mostly shade to keep the watering easier. Plant when ready. A question I answer around 100,000 times over the season "what do you do with the "leftover" plants when you close?" Absolutely nothing. I cut them back. Set them under irrigation that is on a timer so I literally never look at them. In Nov. they go in the greenhouse. Next spring, ironically these are the first to fly off the benches as they are bigger then the new plants.

I posted some pictures of my own containers today. I get so many questions concerning low maintenance containers. I rely very heavily on foliage in. my own containers as I spend so much time in the greenhouse I can not give them any attention. I think they are very pretty even without flowers. If you have a container plant that is struggling after the heat. Consider popping it out and adding a foliage such as sweet potatoe or colous or a succulent.

CLOSING FOR THE SEASON SUN JULY 26

Why do we close "so early"? Here's a question we hear thousands of time! In reality there is almost no one out plant shopping in Aug.. We decided why wait until Sept to run our sale and offer tired root -bound plants. We run our sale in July while our plants are beautiful, healthy and we have a fantastic selection. We want you to have all summer to enjoy the plants at fantastic prices.
Mike is a teacher so our schedules allowed us to make Aug family time. When the kids were very young we started going to national parks where today there are only a few we have not visited and some, such as Yosemite, Glacier, and Rocky Mountain (Our daughter was married in Rocky Mountain last year!) there is not a trail we have not done. As the kids got older our adventures grew to traversing famous long hikes. John Muir being the first, now travelled at least 3 times. Continental Divide throught the Rockies with many 14ers. On to the high route of Switzerland,
AV-1 of Italian Dolomites, Eagles Way of Austria, Inca trail to Machu Piccu, Corcovada Costa Rica, Galapagos, HI, and our absolute favorite Laugaveguir of Iceland with our 4th traverse last summer. Thousands of miles walked over the past decades! As we say our goodbyes for this season I am planning the famous, epic hike through the parks of Pategonia.
A few days ago the president removed the National Monument status from two of our beautiful parks. Many have probably either been to or passed Grand Staircase if you have done the classic desert parks. Bears Ears I might guess many have never heard of however is one of the most amazing places we have ever been. It is extremely remote, accessable by a good 4x4 loaded with food and water as there are no stores, gas stations, hotels... There are no trails. It is explored with a topo map, compass and good navigation skills. Within this park are protected around 200 thousand pristine homes of the Ancestral Puebloans. Many have probably been to Mesa Verde. Those ruins are all rebuilt using the ancient stone. In Bears Ear there are whole villages in perfect condition protected for 1000 years by the dry weather and remoteness of the park. To "hike" in this park you follow ancient river beds scanning the high cliff walls. These dwellings are so camouflaged blending perfectly into the cliff. Then the puzzle of reaching them. No ropes are allowed in the park, subject to huge fines. Of course these people easily went down to the river for food, crops, water so there is always a way. Once at the site the what unfolds is just breathtaking. There are whole villages tucked in the cliff side. I've see 1000 year old corn cobbs and pottery shards. A turkey pen of sticks with 1000 year old feathers and p**p perfectly preseved in the dry climate. A child's handprint perfectly imprinted in the dust on a house wall. With monument status and protection these treasures could so easily be lost forever. One careless mining road can plow through bristle cone that were thriving before the birth of Christ. These fragile sites can so easily be lost forever. I hope as we bring our children into these amazing national treasures they grow to love them and understand the need to protect them.

The monarchs are finally here! I love seeing them arrive! They are really enjoying liatris, anise hyssop, garden phlox and angelonia. And of course, you must have milkweed if you want these beauties to stay in your yard. Their caterpillars must have milkweed.
