Why plant in the fall?

3. Gentler temperatures = less heat stress, but still warm soil that promotes root growth

Wind flowers (Anemone), Asters, sedums, Black-eyed Susans, perennial Plumbago, Balloon flowers, hardy Chrysanthemums, Heliopsis (False Sunflowers) and Montauk daisies aren't available in the spring or don't look like much until mid-summer to fall.
Many late summer to fall blooming shrubs such as Caryopteris, Paniculata hydrangeas, Butterfly Bush, Vitex and Rose of Sharon look their best this time of year and are easier to pick out when they are showing color.
