Occasionally we will do some rifle customization at Dirty Donkey Gunsmithing. The first target shown is the before modification group with a one-hundred percent stock R***r 10/22. The second group is the after modification group with the same rifle, same optic, same distance, same ammo and same shooter. Oh- and zero replacement parts- that’s right- no Volquartsen trigger; no Kidd barrel; no upgraded optic! And these are 10-shot groups by the way!
These results are real and if you want to improve the accuracy of your 10/22 or any other rifle, you can talk to the Donkey and see what we can do for you.

An exceptional Kreighoff K-32 recently arrived to be stripped, polished and restored to its original beauty. The purple hue on the receiver and top latch is due to the high nickel content used in the steel and because of the hardness of the steel.
We chemically stripped the entire receiver- after complete disassembly of course- then repolished it to a high luster and hot-salt blued it.
Our next step in this is to fit a new stock and forend to this classic example of German craftsmanship.

A beautifully engraved Springfield 1911 came in to us recently, after being cold blued. The request was to remove the cold blue, polish the slide and frame to high luster and then blue it correctly- with hot salts. After chemically stripping the cold blue, a day of polishing to remove the factory rough polish marks this beautiful lady was ready for her new coloring.
Cold blue is fine for touch-ups and covering of small imperfections, but for correct and proper coloring look for a shop that offers traditional rust bluing or hot-salt bluing. You won’t be disappointed.

The most recent trench gun project from DDG.
The customer purchased this early model 37 Ithaca from auction at a bargain price of $80.00! It was in rough shape- stock broken beyond repair- held together with electrical tape and oil soaked; the metal was in equally rough shape but rusted- probably because all the oil was in the wood, not on the metal. The original 28” full-choked barrel was cut off and recrowned at 20” and a reproduction heat shield/bayonet lug was added. We then disassembled everything again, blasted it with recycled glass, hot blued all the metal and replaced the stock.
Not an original trench gun or military veteran, but cool nonetheless.
