This appreciation goes out to WNUA 95.5 FM Chicago, home of the smoothest jazz you’ve ever heard in your life!

True Chicagoans remember riding down L*D, switching the dial to 95.5 FM and listening to some smooth jazzy tunes that would make you want to mellow out, or do some Chicago stepping with your partner.

From Musical StarStreams to The Sounds Of Brazil on Sunday nights, if you wanted a change of pace to the hustle and bustle of the city life, WNUA was the perfect choice to put you in the right mood of chill and relaxation.

The recording playing is from a cassette I recorded one day while listening to the station, as I often recorded the radio, and STILL have those old cassette tapes.

I distinctly remember my good brother (Adam Hill) and I listening to WNUA in 1997, as we cruised the city streets. No matter what was happening inside or outside of the car, we’d always like to mellow out to some Sade, Ramsey Lewis, or Paul Hardcastle… Good Times, Indeed!

Unfortunately, in May of 2009, after a longstanding run since 1987, we heard the last broadcast of WNUA 95.5 FM. The history remains, though, and nothing since has been as smooth. Damn shame.

Love to WNUA 95.5 FM Chicago, UnDigable Digs Approves This Message!

This appreciation goes to Chicago’s Own, SNYPAZ (Servin Ni**az Young Playa A*z Zhit).

Hailing from the West Side of Chicago, The Snypaz not only made their own lane; but made the world notice that the city had versatility, lyrics, flow, and style like none other!

Although many may not know what the members look like, everyone knows their tracks. I distinctly remember people asking me what song was playing in the background on the introduction to Twista’s “Adrenaline Rush” album, and of course the Snypaz was the answer, as they were Searchin’, hurtin for certain, looking for a come-up! Largely produced by the Legendary Traxster, their beats and flows remained classic!

Their catalog includes features with Do Or Die, Scarface, Twista, Yukmouth, Psycho Drama, Triple Darkness, and more!

Their music still remains top tier when mentioning Chicago rap legends, and it’s time to present flowers to these brothers! Salute to the Snypaz! Digs Approves This Message!

This appreciation goes to Common Sense, one of Chicago’s Finest emcees! Representing the South Side of the City, Common has always kept it Chicago, and has remained true to his roots throughout his career.

In his earlier videos, you see cameos from Chicago’s street legends, and visuals that represent Chicago’s Hip-Hop scene in the early ‘90s.

One to never shy away from social consciousness and highlighting social conditions, Common’s introspective; yet, observational approach and poet-like depictions of such environments propel him to the forefront of Hip-Hop royalty. Rather he’s rhyming about Black identity, street life, love, abortion, or just displaying his love for rhyming & being a B-Boy, Common embodies Hip-Hop in every essence.

If you ever get a chance to catch his live performance, it’s always a treat to see him breakdance; never being “too cool” to show you where it all originated from.

I was once asked who my favorite artist was, and I had many to name; I couldn’t select just one. While pulling the albums for this picture I realized that I have every full-length project Common has ever dropped… Without even knowing it, it’s safe to say that Common Sense is one of my favorite artists; I had to show some love! This appreciation goes to the West Side of Chicago’s own…. Crucial Conflict.

Led by Wildstyle, Kilo, Never, & Coldhard, these brothers represented 4 different Nations, joined together under one star, to make some of the coldest music the world has ever heard! We definitely cannot forget QBall as the silent partner, and Lupe Fiasco as the honorary member!

Crucial Conflict is arguably one of the only Chicago rap groups to have national/international success and remain in Chicago. Signatures of that fast-paced Rodeo style, when Crucial dropped, you knew it was official, and indeed, the world was put on notice that they had Finally Let In Chicago Terror!

Although the group had its first release in 1993 with “Crucial Times” it was their 1996 album “The Final Tic” that got them worldwide recognition. With an industry push from Fab 5 Freddy, we knew that life just wouldn't be the same no more.

Crucial Conflict is still performing, and still dropping new music ‘til this day! Join me in celebrating these Chicago legends!
