Potawatomi Fringe

Oklahoma “When I take you out in the surrey with the fringe on top” 🎶✨

This week, Steph is bringing some serious fringe energy to the studio! We’ll start with a Potawatomi base, one of the fastest and most versatile foundations in beadweaving, and then explore multiple types of fringe to attach to it. Once you learn these fringe techniques, you’ll be able to apply them to all kinds of bases, but Potawatomi is the perfect place to start. It works up quickly, looks amazing, and is just plain fun.

This design works beautifully as a bracelet or a necklace, so you can take it in whatever direction inspires you!

Supplies needed:
Seed beads in any size, as many colors as you like - this is your chance to raid your stash and play! 🎨

🌳 Miniature Tree of Life🌳

This Studio Sunday, we’re combining techniques for one stunning little project! You’ll wire wrap a mini Tree of Life, then embellish it with bead embroidery to create a truly one-of-a-kind miniature work of art.

Whether you’re newer to wire wrapping or bead embroidery - or both - this is a wonderful project to practice and grow your skills while coming away with something beautiful to show for it. 🍃

Frames, wire, and beads are provided, but feel free to bring any special beads, charms, or treasures you’d like to incorporate into your own unique piece!

The Joy of Beadweaving
Embellished Hubble Stitch

Ready to take your Hubble stitch to the next level? In this class, we’re building on the basics and adding a beautiful embellishment layer that transforms the stitch into something truly eye-catching.

We have worked up two gorgeous colorways to inspire you: a fresh mint green and white version worked with 11° seed beads and 3mm fire polish beads (two strands creates a 6.5” bracelet), and a rich turquoise and copper version featuring 11° seed beads and Superduos. Each combination gives the finished piece a unique look, so there’s plenty of room to make it your own!

If you missed last week, don’t worry, we’ll get you comfortable with the stitch before adding the embellishment layer, which is an easy and satisfying add-on!

Supply List:

• 11° seed beads in your chosen colors
• 3mm fire polish beads (for the mint/white version) OR Superduos (for the turquoise/copper version)

Joy of Beadweaving
Hubble Stitch

Our European beadweaving studies unit is winding down, and this week we are studying one of the most recent stitches!

This week we’re learning the Hubble stitch, created by UK-based designer Melanie de Miguel. She describes it as “a blend of herringbone and ladder stitch, and a close cousin of right-angle weave.” Once the rhythm clicks, it works up quickly and produces a beautifully lace-like, slinky drape.

You’ll choose your own color palette, anywhere from 1 to 5 colors of seed beads, and decide whether you’d like to make a bracelet, necklace, or even a wrap bracelet. Stitch in 11°s for an airy, delicate chain effect, or grab your 8°s to build something bold and substantial. Either way, the results are stunning.

The Joy of Beadweaving
Spiral Herringbone Rope

Ready to take your beadwork to the next level? In this class, you’ll learn spiral herringbone stitch, a stunning variation of classic herringbone that creates a beautifully twisted, rope-like tube. With its elegant spiral and satisfying rhythm, this stitch is a favorite among beaders who love both the process and the results.

Students will learn to set up the foundation rows, establish the herringbone pattern, and coax that magical spiral into shape. You’ll leave with a finished bracelet or rope segment and the confidence to keep stitching at home.

Best for beaders with some prior experience, familiarity with basic herringbone or other off-loom stitches is helpful but not required.
