My name is Crystal Martin and I am the owner and sole basket maker at Heritage Basket Company. I've been fascinated with baskets since the first time I saw one being made. I attended a crafts fair with my mom when I was a little girl and remember watching a basket maker take raw strips of wood and turn them into this gorgeous creation. The thought that a person could take something from nature and
make it into a functional work of art amazed me even at an early age. I began experimenting with various crafts after that, such as crocheting, knitting, sketching and woodworking. Throughout the years I have enjoyed a number of crafts but had yet to try basket making. I mentioned to my mom that I'd love to try making baskets and, being my biggest fan and advocate, she bought me two basket kits for my birthday. I began working on them immediately and from that moment I was hooked! For me, no other craft compares. I truly love making baskets whether it's from a pattern or my own creation. I get to do something I'm passionate about when I make baskets. I also love knowing that everyone who receives my baskets will have something that's not only beautiful and finely crafted but something Kentucky Proud / Appalachia Proud - made with materials from Kentucky! - that will last for generations to come. I truly hope you enjoy my baskets just as much as I enjoy making them!
