The latest project off my bench is this 1959 Truetone model DC2036A in an eye appealing Turquoise. I have three of this same model in this same color, and all three were severely sun faded, more than the norm for other MCM plastic radios molded in color. Not sure if it had something to do with the formula of the plastic used in this particular model or not. Being 67 years old, decades of sun exposure has turned this once vivid Turquoise radio to a Brownish-Aqua color. I wet sanded the cabinet, starting with a 600 grit, working my way all the way up to 5000 grit, and then hand polished with Meguiars polishing compound for a shiny mirror finish. This time consuming task removed 90%+ of the sun fading, bringing it closely back to its original color.
I then replaced all the paper & wax capacitors, replaced the bad & weak tubes, fixed a broken solder joint on the printed circuit board and added an external antenna lead for better reception. This thing now plays great, and it looks even better.

I picked up this six tube Sylvania radio last week. It's a 1954 Model 614 in Mars Red, with a neat industrial looking expanded steel mesh grill. What I think is the coolest feature on this radio is the pilot light behind the translucent tuning knob...very clever!

This English made radio I've had in my collection for some time now. It's a 1960 Regentone model DP-3 in a Regal Red with Gold trim. It has some very nice lines indicative of Mid-century styling.
It is a 220 Volt AC set with this 4 tube lineup (Valves as the Brits call themđŸ˜‰) :
*UBF80-IF/RF (amplifier & det.)
*UCH81-(triode oscillator and heptode mixer)
*UCL83-(AF amplifier triode and an output pentode)
*UY85-(Half Wave rectifier)
This will be making its way to it's new home in South Carolina, to live with my good Radio buddy Jacob Weinstein

About 2 weeks ago, I lost out on this same model in Yellow that was up for auction. I mentioned this to my good radio buddy Jeremy Stone who said he had one in Turquoise that he'd be willing to part with. We then worked out a trade and this cool Packard-Bell model 5R5 now sits proudly in my collection. This 5 tube set is a west coast radio manufactured in Los Angeles in 1959. I particularly love the atomic emblem on the tuning indicating pointer.

I took it on the road this weekend and set up at the Cincinnati Antique Radio Society's annual "Radiorama" on Saturday June 20th. The show/swap was well attended and there was near perfect weather. Was able to visit with old radio friends, met some new ones, and sold, traded & bought several vintage radios. Thanks to all the local club members for their welcoming hospitality!
After the show, my radio buddy Steve Fleury took me to the newly renovated American Sign Museum in Cincinnati....I was in vintage heaven with neon sign overload....I'd highly recommend this as a stop if you are in the area.

A huge shout out to fellow collector Jeff Webster for wheeling & dealing so I could acquire this beautiful Forest Green/White Philco. I then was able to complete the 1955 Philco D595 Series in all 3 colors that it was offered in. It's just a very basic boxy design with a waffle type grill highlighted by a shiny color coordinated backing cloth, but they sure do pop!
Also shown here is a 1956 Pink Model E-810, which used an identical molded plastic cabinet, however the chassis & grill are different. Thanks again Jeff....I appreciate you man!

Coming off a radio filled weekend with 2 swap meets (Saturday in the Chicago area and Sunday in the Milwaukee area), I was able to sell some, and I'm now a few radios lighter. Plus I was able to pick up this gem.... a Red & White1959 Majestic "Black Magic" model 900 transistor table radio in a screaming MCM design. This was produced at a time when many manufacturers were starting to get into using transistors instead of vacuum tubes. It is powered by six "D" cell batteries in series (9 volts total), and even still had the decades old Eveready "Leak Proof" batteries installed from what I would guess were of 1970s vintage. Good thing they lived up to their "Leak Proof" name. When I installed a fresh set of batteries, this radio still plays well.
