The older version of me held onto potential like it was a promise. I believed in what people could become in the version of love they described but never fully gave. I stayed loyal to words, to possibilities, to imagined futures that existed more in my heart than in reality.

But the new version of me pays attention to actions. To consistency, effort, the things people actually choose to do. I no longer romanticize empty intentions or wait around for someone to become who they said they would be. Potential means nothing when it is never followed by change.

Now I value proof over promises. Peace over confusion. And I think that’s growth, learning that love is not built on what someone might give you someday but on what they are already showing you right now. 💙
