MICROMOSAIC CHALLENGE! As most of you know, filati have been all the rage lately in the US. Traditionally, filati are used by master craftsmen for very detailed micromosaic images. Lately we are seeing them used more for abstract, contemporary art pieces.
I thought it would be fun to do a little filati challenge, interpreting a painting by the King of Pointillism, Seurat.
How to enter: interpret this painting or a detail of this painting (“Seascape” by Seurat) using any filati from anywhere - can be from us at the Smalti Emporium, another manufacturer, or even your own personal handmade filati. And then DM or email us photos! We will share them for everyone to enjoy ✨
This is just for fun, but it’s is an excellent exercise to think about color theory in mosaic work! A lot of mosaic work behaves very much like pointillism. Pay attention to the colors put next to each other, and the effect of the background color (for us mosaicists it is the mortar).
I am excited to see what everyone makes! 💕
