Filtration is sooo heavily debated - but I’ve personally found sponge filters to be the most reliable for what I’m doing. That being said, if I were to set up a personal discus tank, no breeding, no shrimp, I’d probably go for a nice canister filter.
Plus, it’s kinda impossible to have a nice scape or planted tank without sponge filters ruining the vibe
Also, I haven’t tried all of the filters on the market, and to be fair the canisters/hang on backs I have don’t even have a brand behind them.
Regardless of what filter you have, I would always recommend adding an extra sponge filter for back up bacterial colonies and extra aeration.
