Kwohtations

Kwohtations cards that celebrate the diversity and absurdity of life Too bad they don’t make cards for all these random occasions, we said.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Janine is a 30-ish-year-old living and working between Brooklyn, NY and Somerville, MA. She loves her friends but is distrustful of revolving doors, describes her personal style as rumpled-chic because she hates folding laundry, and misses receiving real mail. An insatiable people-watcher, she delights in finding the remarkable in the seemingly mundane, but often finds inspirati

on for Kwohtations cards by reflecting on her own amateur attempts at life. ABOUT KWOHTATIONS

The idea for kwohtations, as with most ventures and ridiculous ideas in general, was seeded in the idle chatter between two friends over coffee on a lazy Sunday. Amy and I were reminiscing and laughing over our assorted (mis)adventures, narrowly avoided mishaps, and personal triumphs. Like when someone drops their phone in the toilet (it really sucks) or has a pregnancy scare (it’s really scary) or decides to pursue their dreams despite a myriad of pressures to do otherwise (it’s really inspiring). Or for all the things we really think and sometimes want to say. Each of these cards is inspired by some funny incident or real conversation that we’ve had. It is the happy brainchild of our own propensity to apologize profusely and somewhat unnecessarily for little blunders, and conversely, to stumble into situations (bad haircuts, corporate jobs) where we would be the likely recipients of such condolences. We also try to remind ourselves that we don’t have to accomplish something quote-unquote extraordinary to be someone special. Also, we can be pretty awkward in the way we tell someone we like them. So these cards are for all of us who aren’t 100% pulled together, but kind of like it that way.

Excited to share that I’m working with Wholesale Stationery + Lifestyle + Gifts to bring Kwohtations to Australia and New Zealand! I just got printed samples and I love how they turned out - the print quality, the paper choice, and the larger square size (face for comparison) all make me happy.

If you spot one of our cards in Australia or NZ, please snap a pic and show me 🙏🏼 Maybe one day I can go see for myself in person 💕

I love stuff.

Not necessarily big, fancy things — more like how my crochet strawberry keychain and handmade ceramic mug make me happy every time I use my keys or make a cup of coffee.

I carry around a notebook for thoughts and lists, plus stickers to make my to-dos feel a little more fun. I like having photos with me so I can see my favorite faces and remember how lucky I am. I also always have a tape measure, markers, band-aids, and ideally some snacks in my bag.

Our cool stuff deserves a cute place to live, ideally somewhere it won’t collect lint at the bottom of your bag. So if you also love stuff, this pouch is for you. ❤

My love language is time and attention, which feels increasingly precious in a world that prioritizes convenience and expects instant results.

I’m all for using technology to make the parts of life and business I don’t enjoy easier and more efficient. For me, the point of that efficiency is to open up more time for me to spend slowly, on making things that are luxuriously laborious, on crafting messages that I hope will last beyond a scroll.

In an era when you can send a message with one click of a button — or now even have a robot write the entire text for you — there’s something especially meaningful about the intention and work behind choosing just the right card made with care, writing your own words inside, and giving someone something they can hold onto, reread, and keep for years.

All that to say: I love making cards. I hope you enjoy using them. ❤️
