STORM POPUP • Mercredi 24 Juin

STORM IN PARIS • June 24
WHAT DOES FABRIC HOLD?
Memory, Identity, Roots & Resistance.

What are roots to you? Are they embedded in one place or do you take them with you wherever you go? Can you define them clearly?
Are we progressively losing our identity through the dilution of object and textile? Are we forgetting how strongly craft used to bind us all.

From their essential, everyday use to their role in colonialism and the rise of fast fashion, the threads we wear, weave, and pass down have always held power: the power to communicate, to control, to resist, and to preserve. Yet the stories embedded in cloth about identity, belonging, craft knowledge, and cultural survival, are clearly on the verge of disappearing.

On June 24th, we welcome Nur Kaoukji, Lebanese designer, creative director, and co-founder of ecru, for a story telling session on textiles as a living language of home, heritage, and quiet rebellion through anecdotes of her experiences as a multicultural citizen and a lover of craft. With over 20 years of work rooted in traditional craftsmanship across India and the Arab world, Nur brings personal experience to questions of what fabric says about our identity.

A second stop in Paris this June for Storm.
In movement again 🌪️
This time, we will be landing in Random Access Memory Library, hosted within Union Jeunesse Internationale.
For three days • June 23-24-25 • we’ll share a selection from our book collection and host moments to gather around.

On Wednesday, June 24:

4-6pm (16-18h) • a family workshop with Talin & Thea Spring (in French), inspired by SWANA traditions, this workshop invites participants to make their own protective amulet. Using fabric scraps, beads, engravings, paper, they’ll tuck in their messages and wishes, leaving with a one-of-a-kind talisman of their own. Théa Spring

7pm (19h) • What Does Fabric Hold? Memory, Identity, Resistance (in English), storytelling with Nur Kaoukji, designer and co-founder of ecru, on what fabric carries: home, heritage, and the threads of colonialism, craft, and identity. ecru

This June, STORM is in residence at Jihan, a concept store rooted in African and West Asian design nestled in Paris. When Mariam and Youssef reached out, it felt like a natural encounter between our projects. A space where fashion, objects and ideas coexist, where things slow down and nuance is welcome. They transformed their space into something bigger: a universe. STORM’s selection is built around their program. Voices from the SWANA world, ecologies and belonging. Restless books for a restless space, meant to be picked up and passed on. Come find us inside. 🌀
