A remarkable survivor from the height of America’s Gilded Age: a full-size Tiffany & Co. ladies’ traveling vanity set, dating to the 1880s and preserved in its original fitted chest.
Created for Elizabeth S. Davis—whose full name is engraved on the exterior nameplate—each elaborately decorated, fully hallmarked piece bears her intertwined initials. The remarkably complete interior includes a hand mirror, vanity tray, hand brush, clothes and grooming brushes, powder and rouge jars, pill and jewelry boxes, pin tray, shoehorn, nail buffer and file, buttonhook, and additional manicure implements.
The pieces remain in pristine condition, offering an extraordinary glimpse into an era when a woman of social standing did not merely pack for a journey—she traveled with an entire dressing table.
A magnificent Tiffany time capsule, made for one lady more than 140 years ago and preserved together ever since.
