U.S. taxpayers unknowingly fund global shrimp aquaculture through development projects — and it's sinking American shrimpers. 🌍💸 Ecuadorian companies alone have raked in $195 MILLION to grow shrimp aquaculture since 2000, fueling a 150% surge of shrimp exports (264 million lbs) to the U.S. in four years. And that’s just Ecuador. India, Indonesia, and other shrimp industries are benefiting, too. Meanwhile, U.S. shrimp boats remain tied to the dock and the well-regulated, sustainable domestic industry shrinks.
