founded in 1979 by owners Beth Leonard and Gary Lawless, we are an independent bookstore with a general range of books as well as specific interests in local and regional titles, nature and the environment, poetry, world literature, and good books for young readers.

Remembering with the greatest respect and fondness Board Member alum and Development Committee alum Wallace Pinfold, who rolled up his sleeves literally and figuratively on so many occasions at Curtis. If you've enjoyed a good book amongst the Rhododendron in the Reading Garden; the quiet chime of the grandfather clock in the 1904 Building; or the monthly flower arrangement in the lobby from the Jean Pinfold Memorial Flower Fund -- we have Wallace (and Dick Moll) to thank for this, and so much more.
