We've been all chickens, all the time lately, so we're taking a break from Fan Edit Friday this week. Today belongs to the dogs of Common Ground. 🐺

Ellie Mae and Rory have logged serious hours out here. Zero of them productive. We love them anyway.

Snookers hasn't gotten her screen time yet, but she's got a spotlight coming too. We're working on it.

Thanks to for the perfect soundtrack. πŸͺ•

Speaking of showing up: Volunteer Day is this Saturday 9AM-1PM! Ellie Mae and Rory would be out there clearing brush with us if they had thumbs. They don't. Bet you do though πŸ˜‰

Remember our G.I. Joe-sized brick debacle?

We're sending a special shoutout to Pamela Hornby for coming to the rescue. A seasoned botanist, now retired from A&M, she assured us that we aren't idiots. More importantly, Pam kindly donated 20 large bricks to our chicken coop renovation. Including free delivery!

Takeaway lesson: Memorize your measurement conversions and always read the fine print.

Big thanks to Ellen Gobi at Elbie Salon, our newest community partner! πŸ’‡β€β™€οΈβœ¨

Ellen donated a $100 gift certificate 🎁 for the auction we're putting together after our soft launch (a month or two out, more details soon). But we're not waiting two months to tell you to go see her.

Ellen's our kind of people. She's invested in this community and in the work of organizing it, and it shows in her salon. She prefers plant-based ingredients 🌿 in her shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. Considering how much time we spend thinking about what goes into our soil, we took notice.

So if you've been putting off a cut or a color, this is your sign to book an appointment at Elbie Salon! βœ‚οΈ Supporting the local businesses that want the best for the Brazos Valley is how Common Ground gets built. 🌱

πŸ“ Elbie is at 505 University Dr E #502, College Station, in the same shopping center as Capriotti's. Fair warning: her building sits in the center of the property, so you can't spot it from the parking lot. Park, get out, walk toward the middle. You'll run right into it. She's worth the effort, and your new hairdo will thank you. πŸ’…

πŸ“£ Local business owners, if you'd like to donate an item or service for our upcoming auction, we'd love to hear from you! It's a win-win: your business gets exposure to people who already care about supporting local and you get the benefit of knowing you helped keep Brazos Valley growing strong (with a tax-deductible donation, no less). Message us here or comment below and we'll get you the details. πŸ’¬

Determinate vs. Indeterminate. Removing suckers. Etc., etc.

Thank you, Texas Small Farmers & Ranchers/CBO, for the tomato tips. This is some helpful information to have when pruning our heat-stressed existing tomatoes.

For all of the residents who are following our page, we're sowing our fall crops this weekend, including some tomatoes. Come and join us anytime between 9 A - 1 P on Saturday.

Being a member of the community is being a part of the community.

Thank you to the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos Valley for hosting us at Coffee Hour after service today! A handful of good conversations and a lot of coffee helped spread awareness of what we're building at Common Ground even further. Reverend Kiya Heartwood's words about our appointed stewardship of the Earth and our community really resonated with us.

If you were there and we didn't get a chance to talk, or you thought of a question after the fact, message us! We'd love to hear more.

Fermented feed day at the community garden. No survivors. πŸ“πŸ’₯

Lucy, Cuckoo, Shadow, and Rambo went absolutely feral when the plates dropped.

"Weird Al" Yankovic would be proud of their level of dedication to eating it. πŸ˜‚

Well, we THOUGHT we'd found a great deal on some bricks online.

They arrived, and we found out why they were so cheap. Turns out the listing DID say the dimensions but, in our defense, we didn't read them.

Anybody know a really tiny mason? 🀣

Fan Edit Friday, week two! This one's for Lucy.

Lucy is our Easter Egger, so she's the one responsible for the blue-green eggs everybody loses their mind over. She is also, by a wide margin, the hardest bird on this property to catch. Corner her and she has already picked her direction, and it is never yours. Worse, she doesn't do it alone. The second she bolts, the other three get ideas. One hen becomes four in about nine seconds.

So we set hers to "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks. Felt like the only honest option.

She's a pain. She's our pain.

Two birds down, two remaining. Which one of our cluckers will have their moment in the spotlight next? Find out next Fan Edit Friday!

Y'all. Rage & Revelry was a blast.

It's proof that you don’t need much to have a killer night bringing neighbors together.

A few hours of Crabs Adjust Humidity out on the benches at The 101, good drinks, and even better people.

This is the exact kind of community-building we’re chasing with both Rage & Revelry and Common Ground.

Same time next month!
