Starting fresh with a blank bone for a full custom nut upgrade.
String spacing? Absolutely critical.
Nut height? All 4 strings dialed in perfectly —
though sometimes, just a hair higher on the 4th and 3rd string, depending on the setup.

Finished off with a clean polish for that smooth shine ✨

Wood breathes.
With time, heat and humidity make it expand and shrink — and that’s when frets start acting up. Uneven heights, sometimes even lifting off the fingerboard.

That’s what I’ve got here. So… every fret gets carefully glued back in place, leveled, dressed, and brought back to playing perfection.

Takes time. Takes focus. But this is the kind of work where cutting corners just isn’t an option.

Partial refret is sometimes a good option, since most players tend to form basic chords in the lower positions of the fingerboard.
Because of that, the frets from around the 1st to the 5th or even 7th fret often get worn down the most.
When that happens, those frets sit lower compared to the ones that aren’t used as much and that often leads to buzzing.
So in some cases, I recommend doing a partial refret instead of a full one.

To achieve the proper neck angle, I installed a shim.
I also performed a full fret dressing to level the frets and eliminate fret buzzing.
A new tone selector was installed to give the instrument a more unique tonal character,
and I upgraded the tuning machines to locking tuners for improved tuning stability.

There are always a bunch of instruments lined up in the shop for setup and repair, and today this Stradi bass landed on my bench. I did a full setup to match the player’s style, and most importantly, rewired the preamp.

This bass has a seriously impressive preamp — the switch between passive and active modes was super smooth, with no harsh transitions. What stood out the most was how natural and clear the tone was. It really brings out the character of the instrument.

This is one of those high-end basses you really have to play to understand.

Yamaha Vintage classical guitar.
He brought in an old Yamaha classical guitar he got from his grandfather when he was a kid. The bridge had come off and the headstock was all cracked — it definitely needed some serious work.
He told me he really wanted to hear that same sound he remembered from his grandfather.
I gave it everything I had, and when I handed it back to him, he was so emotional and thankful.
Honestly, I was just as happy. It was a really special moment.
