Greasy Creek General Store

Greasy Creek General Store We are a small family business in Buffalo, MO. carrying items for spring, summer, fall, and winter. Everything we carry is locally home-grown and vine-ripened.
(243)

Our store has seasonal phases that rotate us through the whole year. We get started in early spring with bedding plants for the garden-growers. We carry a wide variety of vegetable plants, some melons, some berries, and herbs. We also carry flowers and hanging baskets, as well as lawn and patio cedar furniture that has been handcrafted right here in Buffalo. As soon as the gardens come on, we begin handling fresh, farm-grown, vine-ripened produce. Green beans are a main crop for us, and we've sold hundreds of pounds of them over the last few years. Other favorites are tomatoes, cucumbers, all kinds of squash and peppers, new potatoes, egg plant, and you name it. What we don't grow right here in our own gardens on Greasy Creek Hill, we get from the Mennonites of Lead Mine, MO. In addition to our produce line, we carry some basic grocery items. Milk is in the fridge; bread is on the counter; jams, jellies, honey, apple butter, and sorghum line the shelves. We also carry cookies and breads from the Lead Mine Mennonite bakery! Country, Primitive, and Rustic Home Décor is a big part of our General Store all year around, but especially during the fall and winter months when the gardens have died out. We carry a large line of bathroom and kitchen accents, high-quality Thompson wax crumbles, candles, LED flameless candles, wax warmers, candle holders & accessories, chicken wire and other country items, baskets, and a large line of Mason Jar items like soap dispensers, lights, lamps, containers, and many other gifts and goodies. You can also find anything from old-fashioned aprons to country grapevine wreaths to cast iron skillets to bird houses & feeders. In the fall we deck the place out with straw bales, pumpkins and gourds, corn stalks, and indoor decor. During the Christmas season we carry a large assortment of tree ornaments, snowmen, nativity sets, and other holiday decor. Over in our blacksmith shop, Josh Bush makes a variety of things like hooks, towel holders, ornamental pieces, and more. Since 2016, events and workshop classes have joined the ranks of what Greasy Creek General Store is all about. We host several large events throughout the year, and regularly have classes scheduled to teach interested students some of the dying arts of our heritage. Check out our Events tab for a look at what we have scheduled on the calendar.

Tuesday Morning Update (9/29):
Wow… only two more days in this month (seems like we were just saying that about last month)! And these last couple of days are going to try to remind us of summer, however, we know better than that! The temps will be a bit high, but then begin falling again with the first day of October.

Yesterday was another very good day in the General Store again, with lots of autumn items selling and happy customers shopping for mums, pumpkins, cornstalks, gourds, and everything else for the season.
We decided not to attend the Hickory Co. auction, so we stayed here and got some much needed ‘issues’ taken care of. Our repair man had the transmission taken out of my Suburban, so Coley & I picked it up and took it to another shop to get it rebuilt. This time instead of getting another used tr**ny, I’m having this one remanufactured! If everything goes as planned, I should have the truck back by the end of the week.

Today should be another busy day in the store, and we have the Leadmine auction to go to, so Josh will be on his own. But he can handle things quite well, so it’s all good. We’ll be looking for more décor as well as produce today. Our fresh produce is still selling strongly, so we’re going to do our best to keep things stocked up as much as possible.

Ok, for the weather today…
We have a mix of sun & clouds with a very nice 59º out there as we speak, going up to a possible high of 86º by 3pm. The wind will be light and from the south, with an average humidity of just 47% (thank goodness!), and a UV index of a low ‘2’. The sunrise will be at 7:06 with the setting coming at 6:58pm. Ad the overnight low should be 72º.

In the General Store today…
The produce lineup in the Barn Room this morning is again red tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, miscellaneous chopper peppers, zucchini squash, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, acorn squash, potatoes, onions, and sweet potatoes. We should be restocking tomatoes, some squash, and a few other things today if all goes well.
We also have several various baked goods in stock this morning, as well as all of our canned goods, pure raw honey, apple butters, and sorghum.
The meat freezer is also good, with all-natural ground beef, steaks, and other fine cuts of pasture-grazed, Hereford beef from the local McCorkill Family Farms.
We also still have several garden items still available in our Barn Room.

Outside the General Store today…
Our lineup outside this morning is cornstalks, still a good selection of mums, Rudbeckias, several celosias, all sizes of pumpkins, and all kinds of various gourds, ranging from mini to maxi sizes! We’ll watch for some decent buys today since all of these items are selling like crazy now.

Around the Farmstead today…
We won’t be doing much again, but we are making some headway on things… just slowly! Thursday will be a day off from auctions, so I was hoping to hit things hard. That’s until I saw the forecast calling for some rain much of the day. Now, who could possibly gripe about that, as badly as we need the precip?! However, we certainly will have to ‘wait and see’ what materializes there.

We’ll also be getting things ready for the 'Autumn Fest' a week from this Saturday, sponsored by Clay & Canvas on the square in Buffalo. We’re going to be setting up a pretty large booth and will have several of our regular items as well as many brand-new items we haven’t yet had in the store! It’s going to seem odd (and possibly a little relaxing) to be involved in an event without all the work of running it ourselves!!
We’ll be setting up along with some great vendors, so it should be a nice time! The date will be October 10th, from 10am to 6pm.

One last thing, we will soon be opening our Farmstead Cabin for the season, across from the General Store. I should have it ready to go by next week or so. There will be several new additions to our antique displays, as well as several older items for sale. I’ll let you know how that’s going as we get closer to opening it up.
We normally open it on the first Friday of November (Buffalo area Christmas Open House), but I wanted to have it ready earlier this year, so we’ll see how it goes and keep you updated.

Have a GREAT Tuesday!!

Monday Morning Update (9/28):

Good morning to all on this cloudy beginning of a warm, fall day! We’re looking at a few warmer days during the first part of this week, but it won’t be anything like we had previous to our season moving in. Wednesday is the highest (as of right now), with a high reaching around 87º. After that, the temps begin descending back down into the low 70’s again.

We had a tremendous Saturday, and saw so many friends who have traded with us for many years, as well as several awesome new customers who found us for the first time! We sold dozens and dozens of mums, pumpkins, and gourds that day, as well as lots of other fall décor and of course, fresh produce! We’re still in decent shape on fall items this morning, but definitely a few empty spaces right now.
The Hickory Co. auction will be this afternoon, so we plan on going there and see what we can restock with. I sure don’t want to get too low on things right now as the rush is hitting us!

Ok, for the weather today…
We are looking at a high today of 79º, light winds mainly from the east, an average humidity of 61%, and a UV index of ‘4’. The sunrise will be at 7:05 with the setting at 7:00 sharp tonight. And the overnight low should be 60º.

In the General Store today…
The produce lineup in the Barn Room this morning is red tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, miscellaneous chopper peppers, zucchini squash, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, acorn squash, potatoes, onions, and sweet potatoes.

Our lineup outside this morning is straw bales (a few left), cornstalks, still a good selection of mums, Rudbeckias, and several celosias. We’re also good on all sizes of pumpkins, and we have all kinds of various gourds, ranging from mini to maxi sizes! You’re sure to find what you need for your fall decorating needs!

Around the Farmstead today…
I’m almost getting tired of this section since I’ve had to ignore our poor farmstead for so long! We simply HAVE TO get into more of the garden area soon, so that will be at the top of the list. The large equipment overhang area & small shop will be next. If I can get those two areas under control, I’d be elated! We’ll see how that goes.

I did want to mention about an upcoming event to mark on your calendars. As many of you already know, there is a new art studio in Buffalo called ‘Clay & Canvas’, located at the southeast corner of the square in the old Davies Chevrolet building (114 E. Commercial St.). The inside is totally redone for the studio and it is AWESOME! Sandy Gilpin, the owner, has already begun all kinds of workshops, offering education and hands-on experiences for many different aspects of the crafts. You can check out her Clay & Canvas page for all of the details. AND, she is sponsoring an ‘Autumn Fest’ event this year at her studio, and WE WILL BE SETTING UP THERE with a full booth, lots of fall and Christmas hand-crafted items, as well as many other unique items from the General Store! The date is SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10th, from 10am to 6pm!
I’ll be adding more information in the upcoming days, so stay tuned for that.

I guess I’d better let you all go for this morning and get this day started!
Have a GREAT Monday!!

Friday Evening Update (9/25 ~ 8:00pm):

We came back from both of our auctions this evening with another huge load of mums, pumpkins, gourds, and Rudbeckias! Almost everything has been unloaded, and it is absolutely crammed full out there!

We have all kinds of beautiful mums, most of which are just now beginning to pop color and will last for a long time. We also have cornstalks, pumpkins from mini to Jumbo size, every shape & size of gourd you can imagine (and some you probably can’t!), and other fall items to help you get decorated for the season!
Our standard hardy mums are $12.95, and we have them in many colors. We also have Rudbeckias (Black-eyed Susans ~ $8.95), as well as celosias in stock. And all of our items are priced to let you get the most for your decorating dollars!

While you’re here, might as well enjoy something from our baked goods section that we just stocked with a huge, fresh order of baked goodies from the Leadmine bakery. We’ve got all of the favorite cookies, breads, pastries, and sweet breads, not to mention their famous chocolate brownies, pecan sticky buns, and pecan mini marvels! They’re all here waiting to make your weekend better!

And of course, we still have some fresh produce in stock in the Barn Room, so be sure to check out the tomatoes, cucumbers, various squashes, onions, peppers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and all the rest when you come.

We open at 9am sharp, and will be here ‘till 6pm, as usual.
Hope to see y’all at the General Store!!

09/25/2026

Friday Morning Update (9/25):

Good morning to all!
Thursday was another nice fall day. We were supposed to have a few more clouds than we had, but the sunshine was great. And the northeast breezes helped to keep things comfortable. Today should be another good day to enjoy this early fall weather.

We were fairly busy in the General Store yesterday, with an even mix of fall décor and fresh produce going out. People are realizing that the produce will soon be gone for the year, so they’re getting all they can now. BTW, as I’ve mentioned several times already, we’re going to attempt to keep as much produce as we can for as long as we can again this year. It all depends on what is available at the produce auctions, and what the prices are.

Today will be the Leadmine and Hickory Co. auctions, and we’ll be taking both of our trucks so I can go to both auctions again. I’m after some smaller pumpkins, as well as more gourds and possibly more mums if possible. So far most of the mums aren’t even to the budding stage for some reason. I have a few like that myself, but most of ours are just now beginning to show some color. As I’ve said before, we do have them in all stages of blooms for those who have particular needs for them.
We'll also be looking for any 'deals' we can find for this weekend!

Ok, for the weather today…
We should have some mixes of sun & clouds throughout the day with a high around 78º, light winds from the southeast changing to east in the afternoon, an average humidity of 70%, and a low UV index of ‘2’. The sunrise will be at 7:03 with the setting at 7:04 this evening (almost a perfect equinox), and the overnight low should be 64º.

At this point, tomorrow looks very similar, but with a high of 76º and more clouds throughout the day. It should be a nice, early autumn weekend to enjoy the new season!

In the General Store today…
The produce lineup in the Barn Room this morning is red tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, miscellaneous chopper peppers, zucchini squash, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, acorn squash, potatoes, onions, and sweet potatoes.
We also have some various baked goods in stock this morning, as well as all of our canned goods, pure raw honey, apple butters, and sorghum restocked.
The meat freezer is also good, with all-natural ground beef, steaks, and other fine cuts of pasture-grazed, Hereford beef from the local McCorkill Family Farms.
We also still have several garden items available for those who are doing fall gardens. We no longer have our bulk seeds, but we have lots of tools, plant clips, all-natural fertilizers, and other items.

Outside the General Store today…
Our lineup outside this morning is straw bales (low stock), cornstalks, lots of mums, Rudbeckias (moving quickly), a few zinnia pots, and several celosias. We’re also good on all sizes of pumpkins, and we have all kinds of various gourds, ranging from mini to maxi sizes! We expect a big day this Saturday, so we’ll be looking to add as much as we can from today’s auctions.

Around the Farmstead today…
With both auctions today, I’m pretty sure we won’t get much done elsewhere. It’s actually been an ‘all hands on deck’ time for us when we’re here. Josh has been very busy most of the time, and Coley and I have been attempting to keep the outside stocked up with all the fall décor, so there’s not much time left to get anything else done. I have to admit… as much as I love the summer and fall, I’m kind of looking forward to having more time here after the auctions end this next month. I guess it’s a bitter-sweet situation where you hate to see it all end, but you love to have time to get to all the things you can’t do when you’re going to auctions several times a week. During this particular time, we run every day but Thursday and Saturday, and both of those days are normally taken up with either catching up on problems & paperwork, or helping customers (which I love to do!). But, we do what we can, when we can, so we’re just thankful we can do what we do, when we do it (if that makes any sense!).

Hey… have a GREAT Friday and weekend!! And watch for another evening update tonight!

09/24/2026

Thursday Morning Update (9/24):
Wasn’t yesterday a super-nice day?!! It was such a blessing to roll the windows down in the truck and feel the pleasant breezes without cooking yourself! And the puffy clouds in the afternoon just added to the refreshment by shielding some sun off & on, as well as adding to the beauty of the day. It REALLY felt like autumn arrived!!

I picked up our large honey, apple butter, and sorghum order yesterday, and then headed over to the Hickory Co. auction to see what we might need there. I won’t get into all of the details, but just suffice to say that I stayed about 30 minutes and then got back in the truck and headed home without purchasing anything. Things we’re on the pricey side for the most part, and the mums were mostly all green with just the tiniest buds beginning to form. I’m really not wanting anything that green at this point, as we already have a few of them, along with all of the other stages of blooms, from just barely starting to open, to fully blooming… and everything in between.
Anyway, we had plenty to do here when I returned so we unloaded our canned goods and began working on cleanup, watering our mums and flowers, and helping with customers.

Today I’ll be here much of the day, so I’ll begin a few tasks that need attention! (Notice the word ‘tasks’, not ‘issues’!)

For the weather today…
The high will be a couple degrees warmer (76º), with quite a bit of cloud cover throughout the day. The winds will again be from the northeast, with the average humidity level at 69%, and the UV index at a ‘2’. The overnight low should be 58º. A bit drearier day with much less sunshine, but still nice fall weather!

In the General Store today…
The produce lineup in the Barn Room this morning is still the same as the last several days with red tomatoes, cucumbers, and spaghetti squash, bell peppers, zucchini squash, yellow squash, miscellaneous chopper peppers, potatoes, onions, butternut squash, acorn squash, and sweet potatoes.
We also have several various baked goods in stock this morning, as well as all of our canned goods, pure raw honey, apple butters, and sorghum now all restocked.
The meat freezer is also good, with all-natural ground beef, steaks, and other fine cuts of pasture-grazed, Hereford beef from the local McCorkill Family Farms.

Outside the General Store today…
Our lineup outside this morning is straw bales (low stock), cornstalks, lots of mums, Rudbeckias (moving fast lately), a few zinnia pots, and several celosias. We’re also good on all sizes of pumpkins, and we have all kinds of various gourds, ranging from mini to maxi sizes! We expect a big day this Saturday, so we’ll be looking to add as much as we can get between now and then.

Around the Farmstead today…
I’ll be doing what I can today, probably shifting back to our poor, heat-affected garden! For some reason our bell peppers have been flourishing, so we’re going to harvest several of them this morning. We also have a little okra that will be harvested this morning. Just about everything else is over with, so I’ll be looking at cleaning things up as much as possible very soon. We have a huge project that will be taking place out there, which I’ll be talking more about this next month.

Before I go, I wanted to mention something about the autumnal equinox… The first day of fall is normally depicted on that equinox, when the daytime is equal to the nighttime hours. It was announced to be September 22nd this year, however, I noticed that actually this Friday and Saturday are the closest to the “equinox” this year. Friday’s sunrise is at 7:03 with the setting at 7:04, and Saturday’s sunrise is at 7:04 with the setting at 7:03! Just a point of information for you in case you’re interested.

Anyway, have a GREAT Thursday!!

09/23/2026

Midweek Morning Update (9/23):

Well, good morning on this beautiful autumn morning in the Ozarks!! It’s a very nice 60º out there, much better than last Wednesday morning at this time. And we’re looking at a cooler, nicer day ahead of us!

We had a great day in the General Store yesterday, with lots of fall décor selling once again, as well as quite a bit of fresh produce. The season seems to be on a roll now, and I’m sure we’re all elated to see it finally here.
We also had a decent auction day, bringing home another load of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and spaghetti squash.
We’ll be heading to the Hickory Co. auction today, as well as picking up our large honey order on the way. And we’ll also be picking up some fresh apple butter as well as sorghum while we’re there. We’ve been waiting for sorghum for some time now, and we should finally have both pints & quarts on the shelves tomorrow morning!

For the weather today…
We are looking at the coolest day we’ve had so far this season, with a high around 73º, light winds from the northeast again, an average humidity of 70%, and a moderate UV index of ‘4’. The sunrise will be at 7:01 with the setting at 7:07 this evening. And the overnight low should be 57º! (You may want a light jacket tomorrow morning!)

In the General Store today…
The lineup in the Barn Room this morning is about the same as the last couple of days. As I mentioned, we restocked our red tomatoes, cucumbers, and spaghetti squash, and we’re in good shape on bell peppers, zucchini squash, yellow squash, miscellaneous chopper peppers, potatoes, onions, butternut squash, acorn squash, and sweet potatoes.
We also have several various baked goods in stock this morning, as well as all of our canned goods, pure raw honey, and apple butters.
The meat freezer is also good with all-natural ground beef, steaks, and other fine cuts of pasture-grazed, Hereford beef from the local McCorkill Family Farms.

Outside the General Store today…
Our lineup outside this morning is straw bales, cornstalks, lots of mums, Rudbeckias, a few zinnia pots, and several celosias. We’re also good on all sizes of pumpkins, and we have all kinds of various gourds, ranging from mini to maxi sizes! Things outside are really picking up now, so please keep that in mind. We’re going to try to keep good stock on these items throughout the season, but supplies will soon become limited at the auctions. We expect a big day this Saturday, so we’re looking for as much as we can get at today’s auction as well as Friday’s auction at Leadmine.

Around the Farmstead today…
Not a lot going to get done today between picking up our big honey order and going to the Hickory Co. auction, but we’ll see how things go. The weather is certainly going to be very favorable to work outside, so I’m hoping we can get a few things taken care of around here.
I took our Suburban up to the mechanic last Monday, and he got back with me yesterday to let me know it was definitely the transmission that was out, not the solenoids or control module as I had hoped. So… this time I’m going to have someone rebuild the tr**ny and do it right! We should be able to have it back within a few weeks. I really need that truck, especially for picking up orders like our honey and other canned goods. I’ll have to put today’s honey order in the back of our trailer just in case it rains (or some other strange phenomenon!). The 1 ton flat bed is great for heavy loads and pallets, but without a decent load on it, it will ‘shake your eye teeth out’, as the old folks used to say! The Suburban was not only covered from the weather, but gave a smoother ride! (Sounds like I’m getting spoiled or something… nothing to do with age, though!)
All that vehicle stuff hinders my work around the Farmstead, so I'll be glad to get it handled and 'out of my hair'!

Anyway, we have several little ‘issues’ to handle again today sometime, so since I’m the ‘issue man’, I’ll have to squeeze them in somewhere along the way. You know, that word, “issue” is almost a curse word any more! There’s nothing like coming back from a long, hard auction, tired from loading up a trailer and driving it home, and then drag in the door to hear, “I’m glad you’re back… we have an ‘issue’ to deal with”. Of course, when they say “we”, they mean “ME”. After a while, you begin to hate that little word. It seems there’s an ‘issue’ here and an ‘issue’ there that always takes me away from getting what I need accomplished! But I guess it’s just part of life.
I wonder what it would be like to NOT have those all the time.

Well, anyway, I hope you have a great Wednesday without any of those ISSUES!! (Gesundheit!)

09/22/2026

Tuesday Morning Update (9/22):

Good morning, and welcome to the ‘official’ first day of Autumn!! We have a nice, 66º out there presently, with some light ‘drifts’ of moisture misting down off & on. It looks like we got some decent precip somewhere along the way last night, and things are looking much better here on the hill. The apps are showing chances of more precip this morning, so maybe we’ll get out of this drought as well as the heat wave we had!

Yesterday was yet another good day in the General Store with fall décor really moving. With temps in the 70’s now, it’s feeling much more like autumn, so people are moving quickly to make up for ‘lost time’.
We still have quite a bit of fresh produce in stock as well as seasonal décor, so if you get to craving one of those flavorful tomatoes, or some sautéed zucchini & yellow squash, we’ve got ‘em in stock for you (at least for a little while longer!).

Today will be the Leadmine auction and we’ll be going up to see what’s available there, as well as dropping off a large baked goods order for this Friday. I don’t expect much from the auction, but you just never know what might be there in the way of a good buy.
I’ll be checking pumpkin prices today to see where they’re at. With the weather finally cooperating, I’m sure we’ll have lots of ‘pumpkin patch’ buyers there getting ready to open their attractions. We normally have them come from all over the surrounding areas, including over by Rolla, up from the KC area, and even out of Arkansas. When you get that many buyers there, prices aren’t the most favorable for us! But again… we’ll have to ‘wait and see’.

For the weather today…
It looks like we’ll have a pretty good chance for showers during the morning hours, with some sunshine showing up in the afternoon. The high should be around 73º, with light winds from the northeast, an average humidity of 81%, and a UV index this afternoon of a moderate ‘5’. The sunrise will occur at 7:00 sharp with the setting at 7:09 this evening (almost a perfect equinox throughout the rest of this week). And the overnight low should be 60º.

In the General Store today…
The lineup in the Barn Room this morning is about the same as yesterday with red tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, zucchini squash, yellow squash, miscellaneous chopper peppers, some eggplant, potatoes, onions, butternut squash, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, and sweet potatoes.
We also have several various baked goods in stock this morning, as well as all of our canned goods, pure raw honey, and apple butters.
The meat freezer is also well-stocked with all-natural ground beef, steaks, and other fine cuts of pasture-grazed, Hereford beef from the local McCorkill Family Farms.

Outside the General Store today…
Our lineup outside this morning is straw bales, cornstalks, many mums, Rudbeckias, a few zinnia pots, and several celosias. We’re also good on lots of different pumpkins, and we have all kinds of various gourds, ranging from mini to maxi sizes! Things outside are really picking up now, so please keep that in mind. We’re going to try to keep good stock on these items throughout the season, but supplies will soon become limited at the auctions.

Around the Farmstead today…
Ok, I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to (again), however, I borrowed a trailer and hauled the Suburban with the transmission problems up to our mechanic. I’ve been dreading that mission for some time now, so I’m glad it’s over. There’s just something about seeing a huge vehicle in your rearview mirrors, on a trailer, attached to your truck, that get my stress level rising! But alas… we finally arrived and unloaded it, and then all was well!
I did get several smaller tasks completed as well, so it was a good day all in all.
Today I don’t expect to get much done with the impending showers coming (hopefully), so we’ll once again have to ‘wait and see’. (I need to learn to word that differently so it doesn’t sound so redundant!)

Anyway, I’ll get this overwith and let you all get back to doing something more profitable, whatever that might be.
As far as us here at the Farmstead, we just never know what might happen during the day as you’ve probably noticed. So we’ll just have to… let’s see… ‘Stay here and observe’!

Have a GREAT Tuesday!!

Monday Morning Update (9/21):

Good morning on this long-awaited, cooler day in the Ozarks!! It’s a wonderful 69º out there right now, going all the way up to a whopping 77º today! And we even got some showers last night! Of course, with the ‘unusual’ precip, the humidity level is up, but at least we’re moving in the right direction!
Today marks the first day in a LONG TIME that it won’t feel like the 100’s out there, and we’re ALL glad to see it finally come.
Sunday’s temps didn’t go as generally predicted, but it was a little better than Saturday and we knew time was on our side. So, with the normal autumn weather upon us, and tomorrow being the official ‘first day’ of the autumn season, we are definitely ready to get this season fully underway now!

Last Saturday was another big day in the General Store, even with the heat still lingering. We sold a lot of fall décor again, including mums, pumpkins, cornstalks, and much more.
Today will be the Hickory Co. auction, but with so many things running behind around here, I’m planning on skipping that and getting right to work on some much needed outside tasks today. We’re a little low on tomatoes, but should be fine for another day or so.

For the weather today…
It will be a little on the humid side, but at least the temps will be more like they should be this time of year. We’ll have quite a bit of cloud activity during the morning hours with some sun popping out during the afternoon. The high should be around 77º, with light winds from the northwest to keep things nicer, an average humidity of 83%, and a UV index of a moderate ‘4’. The humidity is going to be our little ‘thorn in the flesh’ today, but again… at least we’re dealing with much better temps!
The sunrise will be at 6:59 this morning with the setting at 7:11 tonight. And the overnight low should drop to around 65º.

In the General Store today…
The lineup in the Barn Room this morning is red tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, zucchini squash, yellow squash, miscellaneous chopper peppers, some eggplant, potatoes, onions, butternut squash, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, and sweet potatoes. I need to mention here that we probably have some of the BEST sweet potatoes we’ve ever had! We’re selling them at 89¢/lb, and they have been moving out steadily!

We also have various baked goods in stock this morning, as well as all of our canned goods, pure raw honey, and apple butters. Our order for new apple butter, sorghum, and honey has been put off until this Wednesday, and I’ll be posting as soon as it arrives. I know there are several who are waiting for freshly made sorghum!

Our meat freezer is also well-stocked with all-natural ground beef, steaks, and other fine cuts of pasture-grazed, Hereford beef from the local McCorkill Family Farms. Cynthia did another Salisbury steak & gravy supper the other night, using some of their cube steaks, and wow, was it excellent!! No need for any knives at the table! (Fresh mashed potatoes really add to that meal, as well!)

Outside the General Store today…
Our lineup outside this morning is straw bales, cornstalks, still a lot of mums, Rudbeckias, a few zinnia pots, and several celosias. We’re also good on lots of different pumpkins, and we have all kinds of various gourds, ranging from mini to maxi sizes! Prices on most everything should be marked outside, so come on by and check things out if you need help decorating!

Around the Farmstead today…
Instead of telling you all of the things I’d LIKE to get done, I’ll simply say that I’m going to be outdoors choosing the most needed tasks today. We have quite a bit of cleanup to do around the area, including some burning which I’ve been holding off on due to the dry weather, brown & crunchy grass, and south winds. Today may be the best day for that as we seem to have gotten enough rain to make the ground pretty damp all over. I have our burn pile area in the middle of a field, so we’ll see how things look when I get it all ready to go. I also have a few pieces of equipment sitting out that I’d like to get under cover before we finally get more precip. I’ll probably have my hands full with those tasks, so I’ll leave it at that before I start listing every single item that I dream of getting done, only to feel deflated and defeated when I just get a small fraction of it accomplished by the end of the day! Anyone else have that problem?? (Yes, I see that hand!)

Well, whatever you do, let’s be thankful for the cooler weather, even though the humidity may make things a little stickier than we’d like. BTW, the humidity levels begin dropping tomorrow and will continue going down each day, so we should be even more comfortable as the week progresses.

Have a GREAT Monday!!
