Why can’t they make cool/cute packaging like this anymore? Everything is either shrink wrapped in plastic, or in plastic clamshell packages that require the jaws of life to cut open (ok I’m exaggerating), but I can’t help appreciate the vintage graphics of even the simplest things like these gummed reinforcements. I’ve gotten a handful of messages of people asking how I photograph my miniatures (when I do the good photos). So I thought it’d reveal my setup. It’s nothing fancy, but it works! I use a blank large canvas for the backdrop, and clamp it to my coffee table so it stand upright. Then I use blank white foam board for the bottom. I bought one of those “amazing” light tent kits off eBay, but hated it because the tents and backdrops are permanently creased and wrinkled. The only good thing about them are the lights they came with. So I still use those, but I also use the mini pop up tent pieces as diffusers on the light to prevent harsh shadows. So I put the mini tent over one light, like a lamp shade, and clip on the mini tent’s white backdrop onto the other light. Then I use a DLSR and shoot manually to get the depth of field (to make the backdrop seem seamless) and in .RAW so I can color correct in Photoshop if need be. If you’ve been thinking about getting a tent kit, just opt for the mini tent if anything. I haven’t used the larger one in years, and when I did, my cats seemed to like it more as a playhouse. 😅 At any rate, hopefully this inspires you to take better photos!

The day to vote is just around the corner. I found these vintage Prop 9 pins recently, and ironically we don’t even have a Prop 9 to vote no (or yes) on this year in California (it was removed from the ballot). Maybe your state has a Prop 9, though! And maybe it really IS a “losing proposition.” These pins are available (as a LOT) at my Etsy shop.

It’s not a Morse code/telegraph device...it’s a Super 8 film splicer! Back when editing home videos was way more hands on and computers were giant, expensive machines that took up the whole room.
