Last weekend, Jerome Bias joined us at the Salvage Shop for a linseed oil painting demo and shared why he chose this traditional finish for his historic home.
There’s something pretty special about learning these techniques from someone who’s actually putting them to work.
Thank you to everyone who came out, and a big thank you to Jerome for sharing what he knows with us!

One of the things we’re most excited about for our Plaid & Preservation Celebration on October 3 is having historic trades expert Jerome Bias here to share his knowledge of linseed oil painting.
Jerome will be joining us Saturday 10/3 morning from 9–10 AM for a hands-on demonstration and conversation about this traditional paint, including how he used linseed oil paint in the restoration of his own historic home.
Linseed oil paint has been used for centuries and is made primarily from linseed oil and natural pigments. Unlike modern latex paints, it soaks into wood rather than forming a plastic-like layer on top, allowing historic wood to breathe and age naturally. It’s a beautiful option for historic homes and restoration projects, but there’s definitely a bit of a learning curve!
And while you’re here, stick around for the Glencoe Mill Village scavenger hunt, costume contest, Sip & Shop, trivia, the salvage photo booth and more as we celebrate 10 years of Preservation Alamance and 8 years of The Salvage Shop from 9-2pm on October 3rd!
