A first tournament. A 107 starting average. A 122.3 tournament average. And a division championship. 🎳🏆

I recently participated in my first bowling tournament—a No-See-Um tournament, where the bowler cannot see the pins.

Instead, you make your shot, observe the result, and adjust based on what remains.

I went into the tournament averaging 107.

My three games were:

• 120
• 97
• 150

Final tournament average: 122.3

And I won the 130-and-under division!

As a scientist and professional, I couldn’t help but appreciate the parallel.

We don’t always have complete information when we have to make decisions. But we can make the best decision with the information available, evaluate the outcome, learn from it, adjust, and try again.

That’s true in the lab.

It’s true in business.

And apparently, it’s true when you’re bowling at pins you can’t see. 😂

The tournament was unsanctioned, but the lesson—and the trophy—are both worth celebrating.

Sometimes you just have to trust your process and take the shot.

What a treat having this talented artist at our community picnic! She created beautiful face art for the kids, fun designs for the adults, and brought smiles everywhere she went.

I especially loved my own hand art—a beautiful henna-inspired design that she customized just for me. 💕✨

But here’s what makes her even more impressive: she’s a trained clown, entertainer, ESL teacher, elementary school teacher, and creative entrepreneur!

You discover you’re the seasoned one at work…without anyone actually saying it. 😂

The band starts playing ’80s music.
I say, “I remember this!”

My younger coworkers:
“I wasn’t born yet.”

Me: “What year were you born?”

Cue my internal “Wait…WHAT?!” 🤣

For a second I felt old…then I realized something. Maybe I’m not the oldest—maybe I’m just the one who’s lived enough life to bring perspective, ask the hard questions, and look out for the team.

I’ll wear that badge proudly.

✨ Unbothered. Unfiltered. Unapologetically authentic.

Today’s adventure: ✔️

Started with a peaceful nature walk overlooking Lake Tahoe, wandered to Van Sickle Falls, took in views that honestly didn’t even look real… and then your girlfriend almost became part of the landscape. 😂

I missed the trail for a second, started heading down the wrong path, slipped, scratched up my arm, and immediately realized, “Girl… this ain’t the trail.”

Thankfully, I got myself back on track (literally) and finished the hike.

Sometimes life reminds you that the path isn’t always obvious. You regroup, climb back up, and keep moving.

Would I recommend hiking challenging trails alone? Probably not. 😅 But if we always waited for the perfect time or the perfect company, we’d miss a lot of beautiful moments.

Today’s lesson: enjoy the view, respect nature, and stay on the trail.

❤️ Lake Tahoe, you were absolutely worth it.

Today’s reminder: Stop talking yourself out of the room. I almost laughed at the idea of filling in because my bowling average is 108. Then someone said, “108 is better than a zero.” Whew! Sometimes we think our contribution isn’t enough, but “not perfect” is still better than “not present.” Show up. Somebody needs what you bring.
