Lets celebrate and raise awareness with On The Go With Princess O, LLC for World Sea Turtle Day is an annual global event celebrated on June 16 to honor sea turtles, highlight their vital role in marine ecosystems, and raise awareness about the severe threats they face from human activity. Why June 16? The date honors the birthday of Dr. Archie Carr, known as the "father of sea turtle biology." Dr. Carr dedicated his entire life to researching and protecting sea turtles, founding the Sea Turtle Conservancy in Florida to save these ancient creatures from extinction.
The alarming reality that approximately eight tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans annually highlights the grave danger posed to sea turtles. In addition to this, they face a myriad of threats, including the impact of coastal development on nesting beaches, marine pollutants, accidental drowning in fishing gear, and the international turtle meat trade.
