"It was another lovely October day for a walk! Conflicts prevented many of our regular wellness walkers from gathering at City Park this morning; but Aileen, Denane, Donna, and Betsy represented the Woman's Club proudly. The first order of business for the walkers was to check the height requirement for the boat ride. We were TOO tall! So, we had to stick to walking. We were thrilled to spot our friend, "Mr. Heron," standing quietly on the bank of the stream. Apparently, he is receiving our messages when he checks his emails! He joined us last week at the Arboretum. Let's see if he makes another appearance next week. We combined a little education with our walk as we read about the native plants found in and around the park. Next week, two of our CSPs, Environment and Health and Wellness, will be combining forces for our semiannual litter sweep of Front Street. More details on Monday. Until then, keep walking and enjoying the beauty of fall--and watch out for herons who may be checking their email!"

The weather could not have been more beautiful for the first Wellness Walk this Fall! Aileen, Denane, Elizabeth, Libbie, Teresa, and Betsy met at the Burlington Arboretum and enjoyed bright sunshine, crisp air, nature, and just spending time together. As they walked, they had the opportunity to talk with some of the individuals who were there this morning working hard. tending the grounds. and making sure that this special community jewel continues to look its best! Mother Nature provided a special surprise during the walk, as a majestic heron graciously posed for a photo. The walkers also discovered a fascinating tree; and after a little research, we think it was a Monkey Puzzle Tree. In the children’s playground area, a wonderful guitar sculpture that combined musical notes with the colors of the rainbow was an attention-getting item. The first Wellness Walk was a great beginning; and we are already looking forward to more opportunities to walk, explore, connect and appreciate the beauty right here in Burlington and Alamance County! We hope you will join us!

Recently, Marie and Teresa, co-chairs of the Education and Libraries CSP, dropped off snacks for the workers who assisted with the Mays Library Book Sale. BWC members contributed a variety of packaged snacks and bottles of water for this event. Scott and Leslie of the Library greeted Teresa and Marie and were very appreciative of the donation.
