Fictional Position Posting: Bookstore Pet (Part-Time, 0 Hours/Week, Benefits?)

Hidden Passage Bookstore invites you to nap in sunbeams, ignore customers with regal indifference, and witness something glowing between the shelves — something that changes everything you thought you knew. Was that a laser pointer?

We are seeking a highly unmotivated, self‑absorbed creature to serve as our honorary Bookstore Pet. This is a fictional position, created solely for the joy of storytelling and to spark your entry into the Radiant Light Writing Contest, where a light reveals something unexpected. Write from the perspective of this illustrious creature — or simply let the idea inspire your own story.

Primary Responsibilities

• Ignore customers with regal indifference
• Nap in radiant beams of sunlight with artistic commitment
• Accept treats without gratitude
• Knock over displays for no discernible reason
• Stare into the middle distance as though receiving ancient wisdom

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate advanced loafing techniques
• Must scratch nails on furniture
• Must possess the ability to stare meaningfully at nothing
• Must believe the bookstore exists for you, personally
• Must pretend not to care

How to Apply

Submit a short piece of writing (any style) imagining the life, thoughts, or radiant inner world of this Bookstore Pet, where a light of some kind changes everything.
