🪑✨ WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY at Rocking Chair Quilts! ✨🧵

🎯 TODAY'S FOCUS: The Secret to Perfect Half-Square Triangles!

Half-square triangles (HSTs) are one of the most versatile building blocks in quilting. From pinwheels to stars, they're everywhere!

But have you ever sewn a whole batch only to discover they're not quite the right size? 😩

🧷 6 TIPS FOR BETTER HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES:

✔️ Start a little bigger! Cut your starting squares 1" larger than the desired finished HST size, then trim to the correct unfinished size.

✔️ Mark your diagonal! Draw a line from corner to corner on the wrong side of your lighter fabric.

✔️ Sew on both sides! Stitch ¼" away from each side of your marked line, then cut along the line to create two HST units.

✔️ Press carefully! Set your seam first, then press without stretching the diagonal edge.

✔️ Square them up! Use the 45° line on your ruler to keep the diagonal seam perfectly aligned while trimming.

✔️ Check your measurements! Consistent HST sizes make matching points and assembling blocks much easier.

✨ BONUS TIP: For the traditional two-at-a-time method, start with squares 1" larger than your desired finished HST size to give yourself trimming room. For example, start with 5" squares to make two 4" unfinished HST units that finish at 3½".

This week at Rocking Chair Quilts, we're talking about something that doesn't always get the attention it deserves...

🍑 QUILT BACKING FABRIC! 🍑

Because let's face it...

We spend HOURS picking out the perfect fabrics for the front of our quilts.

We carefully choose the pattern.

We piece every block.

We arrange everything just right.

And then somebody asks...

"What are you putting on the BACK?"

😳 THE BACK?!

YOU MEAN I HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER DECISION?! 😂

❤️ WHY WE LOVE WIDE-BACK FABRIC:

🧵 Extra-wide fabric means fewer seams—or no piecing at all!

✂️ Less cutting, measuring, and sewing!

🌈 Beautiful prints and colors that make the back just as special as the front!

🙌 More time quilting and less time piecing a backing!

💡 QUILTER TRUTH:

There are two types of quilters:

1️⃣ The ones who carefully coordinate the backing with the quilt top.

2️⃣ The ones who say, "Nobody's going to see the back anyway!"

And then spend 45 minutes choosing the backing. 🤣🤣
