He has promised His goodness, not necessarily by means of material things, but in the everlasting comfort of knowing His goodness, of living in the wonder of His love, of experiencing the comfort of His grace.

Certainly this life is filled with struggle, but our focus does not rest on difficulties. Our focus rests on the Word that has been proven true, in the confidence of knowing that He will overcome—and He is making all things new.

He is near and knowable. And knowing Him is the reward, the abundant blessing that we long for. Our hearts were made to know Him. By His amazing grace, He has made Himself knowable. By His amazing grace, He has given us a promise that will never be broken.

What happens when we pray with honesty? From the deepest longings of our hearts?

I’d be the first to tell you there are many prayers I’ve prayed with a fair portion of doubt that anything will come of it.

And maybe nothing will.

But the point of our confessions and questions with God are not bound up in the results. After all, His ways are so much higher than ours. But our pursuit of Him comes to fruition in our honest confession and our faithful hope—the assurance that He is faithful and at work in our lives.

The tendency, though, is to doubt. To wonder, ā€œDoes God even hear me?ā€

We project our own inability on His character, and in doing so rob ourselves of the security and strength that richly abounds in His salvation.

Don’t settle to make camp along the dry road of doubt. Oh certainly you may walk it from time to time, but our place of rest is always meant to be near streams of living water.

So be bold in your prayers—bold enough to ask in faith.

Bold enough to hope that something might change. Surrendered enough to let it be you.

RESTOCKED • ā€œA Prayer For Teachersā€ Cards! We designed these cards a few years ago and have sent out thousands to teachers across the country since! There are twenty prayers to display on their desks to serve as encouragement in their busy, hectic, loud, and full days! Teachers deserve the world! While we can’t give them that, these cards as a ā€œjust becauseā€ gift would mean the world!

We’re motivated to do many things in life: whether it’s travel, exercise, save money, or buy a home. At my last job, I started working out with a friend during our lunch hour. Fitness had never really been a concern and exercise always seemed like a chore. Funny thing though, as we worked out, our goals changed from just getting a little in shape to specific PR’s and achievements. The more we worked out, the more we enjoyed the benefits of it, and the more we saw results. As we spent more time committing to our goal, we saw that goal grow and change as we increased in strength.

When we commit to a goal, it’s exciting to see progress. But what about our spiritual goals? Often times we’re comfortable with where we’re at spiritually because growth just feels like a chore. We don’t have time for spiritual growth because our minds are so focused on physical things. But the greatest commandment, the summation of the Law, is to love God with all of our being, with all of our strength.

Part of our daily growth, our daily mission, should be to commit time to knowing Jesus, to grow in Him. There are always things that serve as a distraction, but committing our love and time to Jesus is for our own benefit. It’s refining, redeeming, and refreshing. It’s life-giving and always satisfying.

So commit your ways to Him. Love Him with all of your heart. Let your life’s mission, your life’s goal, simply be to know Him more. You will never be disappointed with the results.

If you counted the subjects of your thoughts each day, where would most of your thinking time be spent?

I’m afraid if you really broke it down, far too much of our time would be spent in doubt or worry. After all, it is the ā€œwhat if’sā€ in life that seem to haunt our minds, following us wherever we go and whatever we do.

What if something bad happens?

What if this doesn’t work out?

What if I fail?

What if God doesn’t answer?

But in the midst of all our worries and fear, in the quiet of the mornings before the kids get up, in the busyness of the day, in the silence of the nights when you can’t sleep—God is inviting us to find rest in Him.

God doesn’t leave us alone or hopeless or in despair. He doesn’t tell us to just distract ourselves with another Netflix show or Instagram scroll. He meets us with an invitation to lay our worries at His feet, to rest our minds in His truth, to find fulfillment in the faithfulness of His promises.

Our pursuit of God does not have to be casual or accidental. We have the opportunity each day to think about the good things—to actively pursue the goodness of God. Our focus, our attention, and our affection can all be centered around the joy that we have in Him.

ā€œFinally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.ā€
