✨ Meet the Vendor Monday: NAN ✨
Nan Whiteway Gagliano
This week, we’re introducing Nan, one of the vendors at 57 Main Antiques.
Nan and her husband, Nick, have been married for 46 years. Together, they have two daughters, Sarah and Rachel, and four wonderful grandchildren. Their journey has taken them from Illinois to Miami, Florida, Houston, Texas, Santa Cruz County, California, and back to Illinois before retiring to beautiful Cadiz, Kentucky, five years ago.
They even spent some time in Chester, England, where Nick worked, Rachel went to school, and Nan explored. Throughout her years in the U.S., Nan has worked in travel and airlines, antiques, and real estate. These days, she and Nick love enjoying their waterways—especially boating. 🚤
Nan’s love of antiques is rooted in a lifelong appreciation for American and family history. She grew up surrounded by mostly American and British antiques, and one memorable experience in England helped turn that appreciation into a passion for treasure hunting.
While Christmas shopping in England, Nan was window shopping when a light snow began to fall. She ducked into a shop that looked like something straight out of a Dickens novel. There, she spotted a framed set of 50 “Characters from Dickens” to***co cards from 1923. A conversation with the shop owner led to a deal: he would ship items to Nan that she would sell in a mall and on eBay.
And just like that, another chapter in her antique journey began.
Nan’s biggest influences in treasure hunting were her mother and her aunts. Her mother would take her sister, Donna, on buying trips throughout the Midwest, often loading up a U-Haul with treasures purchased from farmers who would let them explore their barns. They would bring their finds home, fill their little barn, and hold sales—including treasures they decided not to keep.
That family tradition of finding the unusual continues today.
So what can you expect to find in NAN?
Mostly American and English antique furniture and collectibles, with family pieces, both smalls and furniture, among Nan’s favorites. She’s especially drawn to primitives and unusual antiques.
And one piece currently in the booth has especially caught her eye:
An 1800s European work table.
It’s just the kind of piece that reflects what Nan loves about antiques—the history, the craftsmanship, and the story that comes along with something that has already lived a life.
