Trees leafing out, spring flowers showing their colors, bird song increasing, and oh, that yellow coating of pollen…it must be April on the coast of Carolina! It’s time to be on the lookout for the first hummingbirds and other spring arrivals and watch for mated bird pairs preparing their nests. Is your yard ready to welcome them?

Now’s the perfect time to get outside and do some spring cleaning of feeders, bird baths and unoccupied bird houses, while you enjoy April’s weather. At the Yardbird Emporium, we have a full supply of cleaning tools to make the job easier. We can also suggest ways to keep your feeders and water features clean throughout the year and offer ideas for keeping nesting birds safe and all of our feathered friends healthy and happy.

April is also a good time to take inventory of your space. Have any of your bird houses seen better days? Is there a spot just begging for a new feeder or water feature? Is there a corner of your yard ready for some fun new yard art? Come on in to the Yardbird Emporium and find the perfect items for any spot in your bird-friendly yard.

While you’re outside enjoying your feathered friends, remember to do so responsibly. Observe behaviors, take note of which birds are nesting and see which feeders are most popular with your preferred species, all of which can be done quietly from a respectful distance, so that nature can take its course without human interference. You will be surprised at what you can learn, and you will help your birds stay strong and healthy.

With the right feeders, houses and baths, along with the right cleaning tools and an understanding of best practices, your garden will be a welcoming spot for many species of birds this spring and throughout the year. We look forward to hearing about the activity in your yard! Stop by the Yardbird Emporium, Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm.

It’s celebration time, with a special message from Mary:

"Thank you to all of my family, friends and loyal customers for supporting the Yardbird Emporium for so many years! It was 24 years go today that I began this business, opening on St. Patrick’s Day of 2002, in hopes of good luck and blessed success. I have had both, and I hope to be able to continue doing what I love for the foreseeable future!"

Whether you’ve been shopping at the Yardbird Emporium since the beginning, when Mary hatched this grand idea, or have come to learn about us more recently, we appreciate you! We love talking to our year-round regulars, welcoming returning snow birds each winter, greeting vacationers and introducing new residents to our local birds.

All of you are treasures. YOU are the reason we are here to celebrate, and we can’t thank you enough. Stop in soon and celebrate the big “24” with us! We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm.

It’s March, we’re marching into spring, and boy are we ready for some warm weather! It’s time to get outside and start looking for migrating birds returning from their warmer wintering grounds, as we bid farewell to our “snow birds” again.

One of the most exciting sights we’ll soon see are our tiniest feathered friends…hummingbirds! Don’t wait until you see the first hummer looking for food; now is the time to get out your nectar feeders, clean them up and fill them with the sweet energy boost that hummers need.

At the Yardbird Emporium, we have a wide selection of hummingbird feeders to fit any space. There are single port tubes that you can place in a pot of flowers, window feeders for a close-up view, and a wide range of other styles just right for any spot in your yard or on the patio. We also carry cleaning tools, such as brushes made just for hummer feeders, ready-made nectar, and accessories such as swings (yes, hummers do use them), ant and bee guards and more. We even have books and yard art featuring these tiny wonders. Remember that fresh nectar and clean feeders are essential to hummingbird health. Ask us how to attract hummers and keep them safe and healthy.

Hummingbirds aren’t the only ones on the move. Expect to see Purple Martins and other spring migrants soon, as well. Make sure to have their nest boxes clean and ready for them. Remember that you don’t want to wait till they show up to put out clean boxes and feeders. Get the welcome mats out now!

Which bird is your favorite sign of spring? Whichever birds you are most interested in attracting, the Yardbird Emporium has help for you. Stop in and ask us about houses, feeders and food that will attract your favorite species, and be sure to let us know when you see your first hummingbird of 2026! We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.

With a snowy start to this February, it might not seem like spring is just around the corner, but love is already in the air! As warmer days approach, birds are starting to look for mates and find a place to raise their young. Watch for interesting mating behaviors and listen for the bird song to increase as the month goes on.

Now is the time to get your bird houses ready and offer your favorite backyard birds that perfect spot to “feather their nests”. At the Yardbird Emporium, we have a wide variety of nest boxes for all types of birds. We also have poles, baffles and other accessories that are critical for bird safety and nesting success. We can help you choose the perfect houses for every species that you want to attract to your yard.

This is a great time of year to get outside, look for the first signs of spring and watch the birds. February is the month for the Great Backyard Bird Count, so be sure to stock up on all of your food and feeder supplies and get ready to watch and listen for the action. This year’s count is February 13 - 16.

February is also the time to find a gift for your nature-loving Valentine. In addition to houses, feeders and water features, the Yardbird Emporium has yard art, statuary, nature-themed puzzles, books and so much more. If you can’t decide, we have gift certificates, too!

Stop in to the Yardbird Emporium and tell us about the bird activity in your yard. We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. We look forward to seeing you soon!

As we turn our calendars to November, we turn our attention to the first signs of our “snow birds” arriving. Birds that live up north in breeding season often join us for the winter months. We want to welcome these new arrivals and keep our year-round birds happy with high energy foods that they need during the cooler months, such as suet, peanuts and seed blends that contain fruits and nuts.

At the Yardbird Emporium, we have a variety of suet products, such as cakes, balls and pellets, in several flavors, and the right feeders for each type of suet. We have a selection of peanuts, in the shell or already shelled, and the feeders that will attract birds to them. Also check out our seed blends that will be perfect for our cool weather friends.

Speaking of your November calendar, mark your now for the Low Country Stores Holiday Open House, on Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15. You’ll find so many goodies for yourself, for people on your gift list…and of course, for your feathered friends!

We can’t wait to hear about the snow birds that are arriving at your place! Stop in to the Yardbird Emporium, Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm, and choose from our wide selection of suet and peanut products and seed blends. While you’re here, ask about other types of foods that our cold weather friends appreciate. Be sure let us know about your first sightings of your favorite wintertime friends!

As we welcome October, we also breathe a sigh of relief that the latest tropical systems spared us. Hurricane season isn’t over yet, so remain storm aware! Meanwhile, be sure to get out there and tend to your soggy feeders. In warm, wet weather, seeds and other foods will go bad very quickly; and moldy, soggy, sprouting food is unhealthy for birds. As you’re cleaning and drying your feeders, check to make sure they’re all in good shape. It might be time to retire a few older pieces with something fresh and new.

Stop in to the Yardbird Emporium to restock your supply of seed, nuts, suet and other foods. Be sure to ask us about foods that might attract birds that are starting to join us for the cooler months. Also check out our wide variety of high-quality, easy-to-clean feeders in many styles.

Getting outside during these fresh, cool days is such a joy, especially as we keep our eyes out for the first migrating birds to grace our area. Remember that as we welcome our winter birds at this time of year, some of our summer residents may be here for a while longer. Hummingbirds and others are still frequenting our feeders. Be aware that keeping feeders out for them will not hinder their migration, but will help them get the fuel they need to make it through their long journey.

Stop in to the Yardbird Emporium to stock up on everything you need to make your backyard attractive to birds and humans this fall and throughout the year! Ask us about seed blends and other foods that will be satisfying for the birds you want to attract in autumn and winter. Pick up some new cleaning tools, a colorful fall feeder or two and maybe even some autumn yard art! We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm. We can’t wait to see you!

It’s September, and with seasonal changes, we’re on the lookout for the first of the migrating birds, while still enjoying our summer visitors and year-round backyard birds. Have you noticed any newcomers yet? Perhaps you’ve spotted some of our littlest friends. Hummingbirds are on the move, so be sure to keep the nectar feeders fresh and ready to welcome them!

Are you ready to change out some of your feeders or add a new one to help attract your favorite species (or discourage squirrels and others)? Ask us about the types of feeders and food that will attract migrating birds to your space. Maybe it’s time to add a new water feature or freshen up your outdoor space with some yard art in fall colors. Take a look around your yard and think about ways to make it even more inviting to your favorite birds (and people, too)!

This is the time of year when we need to watch for tropical systems and be prepared for any situation. Hopefully, we be lucky this year, but if we do have a tropical brush, try to keep at least one hummingbird feeder available and don’t be surprised to see the little ones continuing to feed throughout the storm. Other birds may hunker down during the worst of a storm, but they’ll be ready for fresh, dry seed as soon as the system passes, so be sure to have some stocked and ready to go into clean, dry feeders.

The Yardbird Emporium is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm. As always, we look forward to seeing you and helping you select the right products so that every-birdie will flock to your yard!

We made it through the heat of July, but there are still hot days ahead in August. Hot summer days can be challenging for birds, especially the young ones that are still honing their survival skills. All of our backyard friends are looking for fresh, clean water for drinking and bathing to stay healthy.

Think about having multiple sources of water—big and small, hanging containers, ground or railing-level dishes and perhaps a larger bath. This will give all of your birds, as well as bees and butterflies and, yes, even squirrels, a chance to get a refreshing drink. Also be sure to give bird baths and other water sources regular scrubbings and change out the water on an almost-daily basis.

At the Yardbird Emporium, we have a variety of bird baths and other water containers for all of your backyard friends. We also have tools to help make cleaning water sources and feeders a breeze.

A reminder that your hummingbird feeders need constant attention in this heat, as well. It is better to put out only as much nectar as the birds will drink in 1 to 2 days, and to clean feeders and replace the nectar every day or so. That sugar water starts to go bad very quickly in the summer, so provide just enough, and nothing will go to waste!

Stop in to the Yardbird Emporium and let us know about the bird activity in your yard. Stock up on all of your backyard birds’ favorite foods, and check out our great supply of water sources and other items that will make your backyard the place to be! We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. We can’t wait to see you!

We don’t have to look at the calendar to know that it’s summertime! Hello there, hot, hot July!

Remember that water is life. During these hot summer days, our feathered friends need lots of fresh water, both for bathing and for drinking. When it's this hot, it is especially important to provide fresh, clean water daily. Having multiple water sources in different sizes will meet the needs of big and small birds, bees and butterflies, and even those fun four-footed critters in your yard.

At the Yardbird Emporium, we offer a wide variety of bird baths and water containers to meet every-birdie’s needs! Check out our selection of free-standing baths, hanging dishes and containers, and trays that will clamp onto a railing or sit low to the ground. Also be sure to pick up some cleaning tools to help keep your water sources fresh and inviting.

We love to hear about the activity in your little slice of paradise, so come on in and tell us all about it! We look forward to seeing you soon at the Yardbird Emporium. We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
