Small speaker. Serious sound.

Some of the best parts of a record are the ones you almost miss.

The texture of a voice. The decay of a guitar note. The space between instruments.

80 years of iconic Klipsch images | Paul W. Klipsch Watercolor Painting, 1994 – Commissioned by Judy Klipsch for his 90th birthday, this vivid watercolor painting illustrates the extraordinary life of Paul W. Klipsch – including the bu****it button, his renowned logo, his two watches, his Scottish heritage tie, a Chilean locomotive engine, his first airplane, his 1983 Audio Hall of Fame award, and his beloved Klipschorn. A wall-size monochromatic version of the painting adorns the terrace entrance to the Klipsch Engineering and Technology Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, where it is a key part of the history tour. Unfortunately, the artist’s name has been lost to time - please comment below if you know who painted this wonderful work and we will give them due credit.

2002 – RIP PWK

On May 6, after a lifetime of contributions to “the maximizing of an engineering design which would produce the most performance in a given amount of space” (his words), Paul W. Klipsch dies at the age of 98 in Hope, Arkansas. The relentless perfectionist earned 23 patents. Close inspection reveals a small bu****it button in the lower left of his tombstone. Memories and accolades are posted around the world for one of the last founding fathers of hifi. Perhaps Fred Klipsch said it best: “Paul was a verifiable genius who could have chosen any number of vocations, but the world sounds a lot better because he chose audio.” That same year Klipsch introduces the world’s first fully horn-loaded THX-certified cinema speaker system, based on PWK’s groundbreaking research that began with his Klipschorn in 1946. Two years later, at the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Paul W. Klipsch is posthumously inducted into the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame – established by the Consumer Electronics Association to honor leaders whose creativity, persistence and determination helped shape the industry – along with Alan Dower Blumlein, Steve Wozniak, Woo Paik, Norio Ohga, and others.
