One thing that I pride myself on is that I have a good eye. It could be from years of thrift shopping and my interest in reselling but I like to think it comes natural. I swear I can spot a needle in a haystack. Paid $3.59 for this Stetson and it sold on eBay for $42 +shipping. Would you have noticed this hat in a lineup?

Obscure and vintage electronics are one of the best sellers on eBay. I paid $10 for this digital time clock and it sold after one month on eBay for $82 plus shipping. You do have to be careful with electronics because if they don’t work properly they can have a high rate of return. Make sure to test each item as best you can and if you’re not able to test it fully then make notes in the listing so the buyer is aware. If you’re selling for parts only, you’ll want to make that very clear. Lots of people buy electronics for parts so don’t just throw things away. Do some research, you might be surprised!

“How do you keep 1,000 items organized?!” It’s actually quite simple. Every item gets bagged with a number on it. When creating the listing I add that number to the title. The bags go in order into boxes and put on shelves in the garage. When something sells, I just go grab the number. A couple times a month I consolidate the boxes as space clears and keep it going. I never have to go searching for an item or wonder if I shipped the right thing because it’s basically a dummy-proof system. I’m a little extra so I print my number tags but you could just as easily write it on there with a sharpie. There are no rules, just do what works for you.

Taking photos and creating listings can be very time consuming. Finding ways to make the photo taking process faster will give you more time to source and list, which means more items sold.
You can see from the first two photos the lighting is not good. The bottom photo is done with intentional lighting and much nicer to look at. Which one do you think the majority of shoppers would click on? All it takes is a cheap ring light or two from Amazon and the camera on your cell phone. I started selling on eBay again in April of this year. It’s a side hobby that I don’t spend much time on. Really like maybe 1-2 hours a week. Started off just listing some items I already had at home and then sourcing intentionally at thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, and the wrecking yard. About 13+ years ago I did eBay as an actual side job but with the birth of my twins it was too much to maintain. Now that I’m getting back into it I’m surprised to see what a great platform it still is for resellers. In the coming year I plan to make some changes to my eBay store and spend a few more hours a week working on it. For someone who loves thrifting but doesn’t need anymore s**t, reselling the items I find really satisfies me.

There really is a market for everything. Picked up this vintage hole punch at the DI for $1.00 and it sold in 16 days on eBay for $25 plus shipping. Having been in the vintage world for so long this doesn’t surprise me, there are collectors of everything.
I never skip the office supply section at the thrift store because the items are usually priced low and most resellers don’t consider looking there when sourcing. It can be a hot spot for quick flips.

Every time I find a vintage cross stitch kit that’s unopened I grab it so fast. These things fly out of my eBay store. Paid $4 for this kit and it sold for $23 in less than 2 hours. This is not the first time this has happened, kinda wonder if I am pricing them too low. If your grandma has a craft stash, dig through it…seriously.

More about the wrecking yard hack. Grabbed this set of sun visors from a late 90s Mercedes for $20. They sold on Etsy for $150! If you have a free afternoon and a portable tool box, pulling random car parts is a great way to source items to resell. I also found it very therapeutic, which I can’t exactly explain.
