The Limestone County History Museum has a pretty nice website and on that website they have quite a few "orphan" photos --- photos that were donated about which they have no information. Check out this remarkable photo. This is obviously a studio shot, but these women are pretending to be engaged in some activity. Any ideas what it is? Is it just sewing? Do y'all think maybe they are sisters? And check out the hat on the lady third from the left. That's an all-timer!

Now this is a "Hat"πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘’

EDIT: Once again, I see that FB's "AI Content" label has been affixed to a photo and, once again, this photo is NOT AI generated and neither is the text. What's especially funny is that neither Instagram's or Twitter's AI detection picked up on it. What's also funny is that there are thousands of clearly AI-generated images being posted here every day that are not getting the label. I wrote the caption, incorporating Kim's comment, and Kim sent in the photo. Sigh ...

Traces of Texas reader Kim Frey Boyd graciously shared this photo of her grandmother, Effie McLane, in Galveston back in the summer of 1965 and had this to say. "She was a really fun person. When she was a young woman in college, her nickname was β€œYeck.” Her grandchildren lovingly called her 'Mammy.'

Mammy taught me so many things that I still treasure. She taught me how to cook, how to read books, and how to sew clothes for my Barbie dolls. Those are memories I will always carry with me.

One summer, we went to Galveston and visited her cousin, Alice. That trip became the highlight of my summer. Looking back, I realize it wasn’t just the places we went or the things we did that made those memories so specialβ€”it was having that time with Mammy.

She was fun, loving, and full of life, and I feel incredibly blessed to have had her as my grandmother."

Just looking at this photo, I can believe that Effie was a fun-loving person. I looked up the top-10 radio songs when this was taken and it was a GREAT moment musical history, with "I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher, "Help" by the Beatles, "In the Midnight Hour" by Wilson Pickett, "What's New Pussycat" by Tom Jones, "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones, and "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers all in there. So whatever songs were on the radio the nearby transistor AM radio as Effie posed for this photo, they were undoubtedly great ones.

Thank you, Kim. What a wonderful snapshot! I loved your comment on it, too.
