Some days, you feel it the moment the doors open…and today was one of those days.

Laughter echoed, stories were shared, and the Calico Rock Artisan Gift Shop and Museum settled into that easy, familiar rhythm of connection.

We are deeply grateful for the fun, the fellowship, and the heart each of you brought into the room-our artisans, our staff, and every guest who walked through the doors.

These are the moments that stay with us…
the ones that remind us why this place-and these people…mean so much.

With full hearts, thank you.

Artisan Spotlight: Bill Jarosz of Optimus Wood
Woodworker. Creator. Keeper of tradition.

Bill Jarosz—widely known as Optimus Wood—is one of the original vendors in the Calico Rock Artisan Gift Shop, and his timeless creations have been beloved by locals and visitors alike from the very beginning. His variety of handcrafted pieces is too vast to begin to name—each one a blend of artistry, function, and timeless charm.

From hand-turned vases to squirrel whirls, from can koozies to birdhouses, Bill’s craftsmanship dances between function and delight. Each piece is shaped with intention—his wood carefully selected, his hands steady with the wisdom of years, and his heart invested in every groove, grain, and curve.

For cooking, he crafts spatulas, spoons, and pizza cutters (just to mention a few of his items) —because let’s face it, there’s just something magical about cooking with well-loved tools made by hand. They feel like heirlooms the moment they enter your kitchen.

Bill harvests wood locally and shapes each item in his Ozark workshop with care and pride. What you’ll find in his display is more than wood—it’s heritage, hospitality, and a whole lot of heart.

Come see what happens when tradition meets talent.

Jensen has worked her magic again… and we’re convinced she may have a secret degree in making windows smile. 🍎✏️

Our Back-to-School window is officially dressed for the season, thanks to her incredible creativity and talent. She has a wonderful gift for turning an ordinary storefront into something that makes people stop, smile, and take a second look.

If you’re downtown, be sure to stroll by and see what she’s created this time. We think you’ll leave with a smile… and maybe just a little excitement for a brand-new school year.

We are delighted to announce our Book of the Month for July: “Little Minnow” by Richard O. Snelson. This compelling novel introduces readers to Sara Randolph, a character grappling with profound self-doubt and the weight of past experiences from her time in Iraq. The book’s poignant message, “The hardest part about moving on is learning to forgive yourself,” resonates deeply, inviting reflection on themes of resilience, healing, and personal growth.

Richard O. Snelson, an author with deep roots in the Ozarks and a passion for the outdoors, brings a unique perspective to this story. His connection to our region adds another layer of appreciation for this powerful narrative.

We invite you to join us in exploring “Little Minnow” this month. We are deeply grateful for your continued support of the Calico Rock Museum and our efforts to foster connection and community through literature.
