Kingdom of the werewolves
Episode 6
The whispers carried to me by the wind through the forest trees awakened ancient emotions within me, sorrows buried for decades were born in an instant, the imminent war for humanity I knew not of, the escape into the unknown.
The oracle Mara said, "You will depart from your land, O Emir, you will fall in love with a human."
At that, I laughed mockingly, "I fall in love with a human?!"
"Emir, the thunderous Emir, in love with a human? You, a foolish oracle," I retorted.
The beautiful Mara smiled and said, "One day, Emir, you will remember me!"
Oh, the pain! I fear not facing thunder nor the wolves of the Hirschien Hills, no wolf can kill me, but these humans are a thorn in my side.
Who sent her to my cave? That question puzzles me, the forest does not answer my inquiries, my land has always been my dominion and no wolf dares to trespass.
Even the King Hirschien himself knows this, and this marsh has witnessed many battles between him and me.
The cursed Hirschien, the arrogant old ruler, what will he do?
He will send his massive army, and I alone may finally meet my end after a long feud.
If I encounter the twin banshees...
I knew Perry awaited me inside the cave, and I knew she wouldn't be able to sleep from fear and dread.
The rocks leaped toward the crocodile cave; I reached the cave entrance, where Perry lay stretched out on the ground beside her campfire.
Innocent and beautiful, lost in slumber, I chuckled. This mischievous little one said she couldn't sleep, yet now she might be stuck in a dream.
I stretched out beside her in my human form, wanting to feel the warmth of her body.
I knew she wouldn't be able to see me as a human, for I transform quickly.
Turning my face towards her, I gently brushed her hair. Perry pushed a stray strand of hair from her face and turned, leaning against my chest.
I wrapped my arms around her, a strong desire to hold her, squeeze her, tickle her bones, but I feared my strength and settled for touching her soft, ivory neck. This sense of security I feel with her in my embrace cannot be ordinary. I, Emir, the strongest and fiercest of wolves, feel reassurance in the arms of a human?
Perry stirred and nestled closer to me.
Before dawn, she woke, prepared breakfast, made coffee, and roused the lazy one who startled when she saw me sitting beside her.
Perry said, "Tika Baka Tuka, my protective wolf."
I bared my fangs at her, "Don't call me your wolf, for I belong to no one. I am Emir, the ultimate of all things."
"Don't get angry," she said. "Fine, you can't stand that excessive nerve of yours. From now on, I'll address you formally, oh... my wolf!" Perry laughed.
In her innocence, I thought the world was full of fools until I met her.
I said, "Eat your meal, we will depart."
Perry asked, "Where to, my... leader?" and winked.
I pondered my secret, not bad being called a leader by her. We will depart for the Antiochus Castle.
"Why?" Perry asked.
I snapped, "The atmosphere needs a change, my mood demands a cold, icy weather. Any objections?"
Perry smiled, and I felt the meadow of flowers had transferred to her face. She said, "Can I play with snow there?"
I screamed, "Oh my god, the whole world is on fire, war is at the doorstep, and all you care about is playing with snow?"
Perry's face darkened, "Since childhood, I've wanted to play with snow. Maybe there I can throw some at you?"
"Don't you feel the danger we're in?" I asked.
Perry ate her food nonchalantly, "Why should I worry when I'm under your protection? I trust your ability to protect me."
"Who sent you to my cave?" I inquired.
Perry replied casually, "An old she-wolf saved my life and told me to hide in this cave."
"What were her characteristics?" I asked.
Perry described her, and I knew it was Mara the oracle, disappearing for years only to reappear and entangle me. She never forgot that I rejected her love. A woman may forgive anything except a man who breaks her heart.
"I'm ready," Perry said, adjusting her clothes. Then she looked mischievously at me and said, "My leader, I felt a body clinging to me in my sleep, was it you?"
I replied angrily, "No, of course not, I was far from you."
"Too bad, I thought it was you. Maybe it was just a dream, but it was a nice one," she said.
"How could I sleep beside you and cling to you in that giant form?" I questioned.
"I know you're a huge werewolf," Perry said. "Very huge indeed, but I don't mind. Do you think you won't bite my neck?"
"I don't know," I replied cunningly. "Your neck looks very delicious; maybe I'll taste it."
Perry glared at me angrily, "Do you think I can't defend myself? I have an iron will and a war inside me capable of tearing you apart. Try to approach me then, and you'll know who I am!"
Mockingly, I said, "I know, I know. Get ready, we're leaving now."
I disappeared inside the cave to change my clothes, amazed at the transformation that had occurred in the wolf Emir.
He treated me gently and gracefully, and I feared he intended to devour me.
He didn't shout at me or respond to my silly questions. That's what I liked about men, being dominant, powerful, and understanding at the same time.
I packed my few clothes into a small leather bag, slung it over my shoulder, and put on pants that would help me run.
If I were to travel with the wolf Emir, I knew my breath would be taken away from running.
Perhaps I would demand him to carry me on his back.
Or bring me a wild horse. Why not?
Emir _______ and I saw her change her clothes. My strong eyes pierced the rocks and saw through them.
I didn't turn my face away from her; I couldn't. I couldn't succeed.
I know it's a despicable betrayal, but it's not in my hands.
Perry _______ I'm ready, my leader.
I glanced at her with a corner of my eye, her pants, her red shirt, her long braided hair, and her blue scarf. She was immensely beautiful and attractive.
I leaped, screaming, "Follow me!!"
Perry ran behind me down the mountain slope, her hair fluttering behind her.
My eyes guarded her, in front of her, behind her, above her, below her, all of them.
Run, you lazy one, that way I'll be far from you.
After a quarter of an hour of running, Perry stopped, falling to the ground.
My legs don't dream of me being a ferocious wolf, she said sadly. I'm just a human girl, how will I keep up with you?
I wanted to bite her, to make her mine, but I hesitated, only doing so when she requested it.
Sit here, I'll bring a horse for you, I said as I distanced myself from her.
Perry screamed behind me, make it a mare, for I hate males.
I brought a horse for Perry, and we set off, leaving the mountain and the meadow where I had spent most of my life.
The cold grew more intense as we headed north, and north winds whipped snowstorms at us, making our bodies shiver from the cold.
I found a cave suitable for shelter, a cave I knew from my travels.
I knew I should stay away from this cave, but Perry was freezing to death.
I ventured into the cave, and it was empty. I thought, perhaps luck was on our side, and we would spend our night in safety.
We lit a fire to warm our bodies. Perry cuddled up to my hair and body until she fell asleep.
The story by Ismail Moussa.
I left her sleeping and stepped away from the cave, tasked with delivering a message to the twins, Qinzah residents of the Antiochus Castle.
The castle, impregnable to any wolf king since the beginning of creation. All the armies that came to invade it were shattered against its sturdy walls.
Surrounded by two rivers, it was impossible to reach it by foot or even to set up camp beneath its walls, as if it rejected any assailant.
The Qinzah twins had bad memories with each other. If they didn't decide to kill each other for what I had done to them, they would be a safe haven for Perry.
On the riverbank, I wrote my message and let the waves carry it towards Antiochus Castle.
When I returned to the cave, I was frozen, trembling from the cold. I lay down my massive body around the fire until I felt warmth.
After half an hour, Perry woke up.
I closed my eyes as if I were asleep.
Perry shifted lightly and nestled herself in my embrace, between my legs, and clung to my chest. Her body was cold, trembling from the icy wind gusts rushing into the cave, and I let her bask in the warmth.
"Then I heard it, I heard his voice from above the mountain."
